Question about Brother Mfc-8220 Laser Multi-Function Center Fax, Copy, Print, Scan
I have a Brother MFC 8220 that I've shipped with me from the US (110V/50Hz) to Australia (240V/60Hz) . Since the printer combo has no auto sensing power supply I'm wondering if I can I can swap out some of the internal PCBs with their corresponding Australian/European versions? According to the Service Manual it looks like there are two replacement parts (NCU PCB Circuit Board (Europe)) and High-Voltage Power Supply PCB Circuit Board (200 V) that can be replaced for the corresponding US boards. I would like to know if this is worth trying as the boards can be purchased for about $30 each. Look in the parts manual for "engine controller board." You can get replacement boards through at least some of the authorized service centers. I got a refurbished board from a good guy in St. Charles, Illinois (Tom). You can contact him by email. firstname.lastname@example.org.
I'd shy away from buying a complete printer. No guarantee it has an updated board and then you'll be back to where you started.
I'm pretty sure the board dies from a firmware bug that's been dormant until recently. Not sure if the bug is triggered by reaching a certain page count, date, or something else, but if you notice, the reported problems all seem to be emerging within a few months of each other even though the printer was first released more than two years ago. Generally after the warranty expires.

Try this.....* 2 8 6 4 should go into maintenance mode. You might have to try it several times for it to take. Oh and please take a moment to give this solution a fixya rating or respond back if that didn't work and I'll see what else I can find. Thanks! :c)
