Sounds like your display panel is going out. Has the tv been droped, or hit by anything? You should call your customer service number to confirm.

SOURCE: 50" LG Plasma - Thin red vertical line in middle of screen

I work for a auth LG service center and each time I have had this symptom we had to either change what called the T_CON control board or the Plasma display panel itself. You need to cocntact LG @ 800-253-0000 report your problem and they will find a service center in your area you should have 1 year warranty parts and labor.

If the set is still in warranty, call for warranty service. If not and you feel comfortable working on the set, carefully open up the back and reseat all of hte cables and connectors. This can be caused by marginal connections inside the set.

Keep us posted on your progress and results.

SOURCE: My 50" Plasma has developed a band across the middle of the TV

I would have it looked at before saying it is burn in, a BLACK horizontal line across the set is loss of data to the display from the Y-drive panel. This is something the customer should not attempt anyway, however, if it is either the upper or lower drive board they are not that expensive. Let me know the outcome.

SOURCE: thin blue line down middle of screen

The red line driver at that point isn't working or there is a bad connection to the panel for that line. (I assume the intensity and hue of the cyan line varies witht the picture). What type of screen is it? Plasma or LCD? The following is for LCDs and may not apply to plasma panels. (I haven't had to fix those yet.)

Once in a while you can solve the problem on an LCD by gently massaging the connector to the display panel edge at the bad spot, although there is a risk of causing other lines to drop out. I once fixed an LCD that had a hair caught between the elastomeric connector and the display glass, but if that were the culprit in your case, you'd probably be missing more than one line. It could also be a problem with the driver chip for that line.

Be very careful about tearing into the LCD. The connections are very delicate, the fluorescent backlight tubes are glass and have mercury inside, and the potential for electrostatic discharge damage is always a concern. It's easy to cause more problems than you fix when you get into the connections, although those can usually be reversed with patience and steady hands. The worst case is a misalignment that would mess up your color registration (color drive going to the wrong line). Most panels have a sticker inside warning against removing the driver electronics. It's there for a good reason.

If I've scared you off, or if the connector massage doesn't work, there are companies like Moniserv that specialize in repairing LCDs. They have the equipment and dust-free facilities needed to repair bad panel drivers.

Thin red line in middle of screen on nec 42 inch plasma monitor

I had the same problem -red, vertical bars along the right side of my Samsung 42" Plasma- and this is what fixed it: Removed unterminated cable.
I had hooked up an HD video camera to the set about two weeks ago. While I disconnected the camera I left the other end of the connector cable plugged into the T.V.. As I've since learned from friends who work in television, this is what's called an "unterminated cable" -meaning one end is unconnected. It can lead to problems with electrical interference and appears to have been the problem in this case; When I disconnected this cable from the T.V. the red bars went away.
So, check your cables. Make sure everything is properly connected and get rid of anything that might be picking up interference.

Thin horizonal line in middle on dark screen

The several thin white lines at the top of the screen is the warning that the vertical output IC is not getting the boost voltage it needs to run correctly. The IC cannot operate for long like that and shorts out inside, which is when the vertical collapses altogether and you get the thin white line through the center of the screen. The good news for your son is that he had nothing to do with that, and it has nothing to do with the cable F connector. The set needs to be serviced by an experienced tech who will restore the boost supply and replace the vertical output IC, and when I do that I charge $75 but techs in your area will vary, so be sure to ask around.

Tv not working

this symptom, sometimes called the tube light effect, it is characterised by a bright thin horizontal line across the middle of the screen. this symptom is caused by a breakdown in the vertical deflection circuit. hence maybe the trouble maybe in the vertical oscillator, amplifier or output circuits. but if all i have said is not clear to you, better bring it to a qualified tv technician. good luck!
