The tv turns on manually, but not with the factory remote. Once on, it will not change channels, etc., with the remote. I tried a universal remote that works with the other TVs, also no luck. I bought a replacement remote from Remotes. com, also no luck. All the batteries are fresh.

Re: TV doesn't turn on with remote
The infrared receiver on the TV is probably dead. If you're handy or know someone that is handy you could pull the TV apart and get the part number to order a new one and try replacing it to see if your remote starts to magically work again.

I have just got a kv-20s43 and your best bet is to try to restore settings, here, To reset TV to factory settings, turn the TV on, Then, while pressing the reset button on the remote control, press POWER on the TV. The TV will turn itself off, then back on, the original settings wiill be restored... definition: ch. fix- 2-6: Select when you want to control all channel selection through a cable box. Select the appropriate channel(usually 3 or 4) and use the cable box's remote control for channel selection. VIDEO: select from available inputs when you have connected video equipment and you want your TV fixed to it.
I found the GE 3 in 1 Model #RM24912 at Walmart for about $7 that worksperfectly. The booklet lists 5 codes for Haier, and code 0217 works allthe functions on my tv, including mute, channel return, and even themenu for color adjustment, sleep timer etc. The code that I'm using is "0748", but try the codes provided - 1034 or 0768 and see what happens.
Codes 0081 0216 0217
If your remote is a 3 digit remote just drop the zero ie. 081, 216, 217
Hope it work's,
If all the other functions work on the tv remote, then turn the tv off, then un-plug it for 10 minutes. Plug it back in and turn it on. If theinput button still doesn't work then go into the tv menu and try and change it there.
In order to get all the channels u have to have the original remote or a universal remote that has a menu button, an enter button, and directional pad (the directional pad cannot control the volume and channels it must be for navigating). push and hold the menu button, the menu will appear then disappear, once it disappears release the button and enter 9876 then press enter. a different menu will appear and it will b three black lines, one at the top of the screen, one in the middle and one at bottom. the middle line has 3 sections the first part is the item number the second part is the description and the last part is the on/off switch using either a 0 or 1. push down on the directional pad until u get to the 00 factory settings 0 and change the 0 to a 1 with the right button on the directional pad. then scroll up to 20 channel lock 0 (i think its 20, it may be like 22 but it is in the twenties for sure) and change the 0 to a 1. then go back down to the 00 factory settings and change the 1 back to 0 then turn the tv off. when u turn the tv back on it will either automatically ask u to auto tune or u will have to go to auto program to program the channels. there are like 80 different menu items, be sure not to mess with any other ones unless u know what ur doing, u could cause ur tv not to function properly or even be able to turn on.
this problem frustrated me greatly and im very happy to help whoever i can with the solution
I wish someone would bring a suit against any of
these manufacturers using the term 'universal.' At best, they are 'multibrand' and, with the
proliferation of 'brands,' there never will be one that can rightfully claim to
be 'universal.' There may never be a code for your brand
available in every remote.
The instructions for searching for a code are pasted below stolen from another site:
steps for programing the rmc10 sentry really big universal remote
1, Manually turn on the device(TV, VCR, etc.) to be controlled. 2. Press and hold the code search button until the red indicator stays on, then release the code search button. 3. Press and quickly release the desired mode button (TV, VCR, ect.). The red indicator blinks off once. 4. Press the Channel up button repeatedly(up to 300 times) until the device to be controlled changes channel. The red indicator blinks off with each button press. If you accidentally overshoot the code required, press channel down button to backtrack through the library until device changes channel. Pressing Channel up changes direction forward again. 5. Press and release Mute to install code.
Code Search If after trying “Direct Code Entry” your device does not respond, or if your brand is not listed, try doing a search of the code library for your code by following the steps to the right. 1. Manually turn on the device (TV, VCR, etc.) to be controlled. 2. Press and hold the SETUP button until the red indicator stays on, then release the SETUP button. 3. Press and release the desired Mode button (TV, VCR, etc.). The red indicator blinks once, then stays on. 4. Press the CHANNEL UP button repeatedly (up to 300 times) until the device to be controlled changes channel. The red indicator blinks, then stays lit.
If you forget your password you can reset it. Make sure the TV is off. Simultaneously press and hold VOL< on the TV?s front panel and CLEAR on the remote for approximately 5 seconds. Enter a new password next time you access the PARENTAL CONTROL menu.
Front Panel Lock
1. From the PARENTAL CONTROL menu, press the up or down arrow to highlight Lock Fr. Panel.
2. Press the right or left arrow to turn on (box has check mark) or off (box doesn?t have check mark) front panel lock.
Of course if you don't have a remote that can bring up the menu I don't know how this can be done.
Change all the little switches (on-off, channel up etc). If just one of the switches is intermettent, or a combination of one or more, it can cause you moe misery than you can imagine. The switches are not expensive but can cause you to lose an awfully lot of time and agravation.
