Question about Summagraphics Refurbished SUMMASKETCH MMII 1201 WITH 4 BUTTON PUCK WITH CABLE

1 Answer

Cursor jumps like mad on Summasketch 1201

A few years ago it started developing this problem - regardless of pen or 4-button puck, or tablet/mouse mode, the cursor jumps, usually in a trangular pattern, but it varies, most often it jumps one inch to the left and right, over and over, constantly. This makes use impossible of course. The jumping/jitter is extremely fast - 5 or 10/second.

I /thought/ it might be the power supply (cheap piece of chinese garbage which came in the original package) so I bought a nice regulated AC adapter - no change. I am thinking perhaps one of the chips in the tablet itself has gone bad. I opened it up and there is one big chip and bunch of small ones ("defining" the grid sensors I would think) . Do you think it'd be worth changing the large chip (IF I can find an equivalent) or is it trash time? Any other suggestions?

Thank you very much for your time.

I appreciate your polite, helpful and original reply. The problem was solved by using a real 12VDC power supply from an electronics store instead of little AC-DC adapters.

My pen for my bamboo tablet is placing the cursor one place on the tablet and and another place on he pc,what can i do to fix this?

Go to Control Panel and access the settings for the tablet: you can choose one of 2 mapping settings for the cursor:

1. Pen Mode: this is only to be chosen if the aspect ratio of the tablet matches your monitor aspect ratio (4:3 or 16:9 or 16:10) and only if the size of the tablet is comfortable enough
2. Mouse mode: the pen behaves exactly like a mouse

Please check these settings and choose the one that suites best.

Skipping and Shaking cursor

I had a similar problem years ago w/ my ss III 12x12 that had worked flawlessly for years. I talked to tech support and they said move it away from monitor (crt) or other source of RF interference - this did not help mine. I tried replacing the power supply w/ generic one - no help. I noticed that the power supply voltage was spiking when check w/o load. After talking to an electric guy I know, he suggested a voltage regulator. Finally I built a home-made voltage regulator and wired it into the generic supply line -Problem solved This was about 10 years ago - still working good today.

Initial Delay of tablet pen

I had a similar problem with Vista which made the pen/cursor freeze just as the tip was placed on the tablet face.
The problem turned out to be a Vista setting.
I went to Start > Control Panel > Pen and Input Devices.
Then in the Pen Options tab highlight the "Press and Hold" pen action and then press the "Settings..." button. In the dialog box that opens uncheck the "Enable press and hold for right-clicking" check box. Hit "OK".
Worked for me.
