Question about Cuisinart CPM-900 Popcorn Maker

1 Answer

Doesn't heat I made a batch of popcorn and about 30 min later tried to make another. Sprayed Pam onto plate, added popcorn and turned it on. These are the same things I always do. The arm turned but when the corn didn't pop I checked the plate. Cold. This was a Christmas gift so I've had it less than a month.

Can I use popcorn butter in the popcorn maker

IF YOU PUT BUTTER IN FOR POPPING CYCLE IT WILL BURN. BUTTER IS ADDED WHEN MAKING CARMEL CORN WHILE POPPING INSTEAD OF THE COATING THE CORN AFTER IT IS POPPED METHOD BUT, IT IS ADDED LATER NOT WHEN YOU WOULD PUT OIL IN.

Model 39A gets too hot too fast

That model has a thermostat (also called a high limit) that is set at 450F. it should produce a popping cycle of 3 mins, and yes will burn popcorn if you don't dump it fairly quickly.
The speed it heats cannot be too fast, there is only so many watts in the heat element. it may go to hot, but never to fast.
The best way to test temp is time the 2nd popping cycle with a stop watch. the second batch should be 3 mins +/- 30 seconds. if it is 4 mins it is too cold. a 2 min popping cycle is to hot.
A popper that is too cold is also popping poor quality popcorn, higher amount of unpopped kernels, and small chewy popcorn.
Measure carfully when doing time test popping. That model is 2oz oil, 6oz popcorn, and 1 tsp salt. Start timing when you put ingredients in, and stop when you dump it. The kettle must be hot, that is why you time the 2nd batch.

I have 2003 model whiz bang popcorn machine that takes forever to pop the corn

Old popcorn is the first thing to check, and that you are measuring correctly. 12oz of popcorn is the correct amount in a 3 min popping cycle. always time the 2nd batch.

That model popper has 2 heat elements, and 2 thermo stats that control them. If the first 2 things to check are good, then you dropped a thermo stat or heater and it is operating on 1 heater instead of 2.

The popper gets hot for th first batch then the heating is rather hit and miss.

There's a thermostat inside that controls the temp of the heating surface. It has to thoroughly cool after making a batch. Probably 10 to 20 minutes.

Slow warmup, when kettle reaches 450 and oil is added the temp drops down to about 350.

It's normal for the temp to cool down when putting oil in. The oil is absorbing the heat from the kettle. If it takes more than 5 minutes for the first batch, and more than 3.5 minutes for the following batches, it may have a bad element.

Popping plate not heating up

Remember the strirring rod connects to the motor, but the heating element connects via the two prongs in the rear, so the motor can run without the heating element turned on (turn on the base without the plate on...the motor runs fine). Try reattaching the plate...it needs a good connection to the connectors in the back. It should heat up pretty quickly. Also, if you put the heating pad in the dishwasher, make sure it is dry and that the contacts aren't tarnished.

I'm certain over time the contacts will get loose and the popper will stop working, but our is going fine after a year.

Also, be careful not to drop the base...lots of cheap, hard plastic that will break and rattle around.
