Question about Intermatic EI210 Electronic Auto Shutoff Timers

1 Answer

Can the Intermatic El210 be set to turn things on and off?

I am trying to find a timer that can turn something on for 5-10 minutes then shut it off once every hour for about 10-12 hours. Can this timer do this? No one at the hardware store could answer this.

You will need a more sophisticated timer than most hardware stores carry. Go to and click their timers and automation section. There you will find many levels of sophistication in timers. good luck

Under the knob is a small hex nut that twists off to remove plate.

Cannot find the WEEK button on the DT300 as referenced under TO REVISE A SETTING. have not been able to get both of my timers to turn on the lamps i have programmed, perhaps this has something to do with...

Open following links to identify timer.
If you have different timer, then add a comment.

I do not see a week button either, and sure enough the Intermatic manual says press the WEEK button to revise ON OFF times. The GE manual says exact same thing. And so does the Woods manual.
I think what the instruction means is this:
To revise programs, press Progam button as many times as needed to arrive at the program you want to change. For example program1 ON or program1 OFF etc.
Then reset the program as shown in step 5 using the Hour button to set Hour, and Minute button to set minutes, and day button to select the days or blocks of days (including all 'week' as one of the choices).

Both timers will not operate?
I test timers and a percentage arrive defective. There is no repair for defect timer. This timer has 1 year warranty.
There is no load rating on this timer, at Intermatic, GE or Woods. Timer is older style and probably rated for 500-800Watts incandescent light bulbs only.
Also test outlet with circuit analyzer to make sure polarity is not issue. This is a polarized timer, and outlet wiring must be correct for electronic timers.
Make sure each program has ON and OFF time. So set program1 ON, and then set program1 OFF. And make sure same days or blocks of days are selected for each.
When setting on and off times, make sure there are no overlaps or conflicts that cause timer not to function correctly.
Another thing is setting timer for 12:00 midnight. It's better to select 11:59pm so the day is clearly understandable to timer.
When reading complex manuals, I write out the steps until things are clear.

My Intermatic sprinkler timer's 'auto" switch

You can replace the 133T1115A switch if that's the suspect part:

Other than the switch, the only other thing affecting timer would be the trippers.

When setting the timer (model 12-817) power is activated between the hour choices (2 hr, 4 hr etc) but the power goes off when the dial is turned to the actual hour selection. If left between the hour...

What timer is this?

Sounds like a defective timer.
I have three Intermatic spring wound timers that are used every day, and never have that problem.
After all, how does the timer 'know' when it's set on the 'hour' since the dial does not have stop points at specific times?

Also take advantage of fixyas phone service.
For a price, fixya expert speaks with you over phone while you work on timer.

My model TN600CL lamp timer goes on fine and turns off at the times set but when it turns off at night in about 15 minutes or so it turns on again by itself. what gives?

If timer is older: The OFF tripper may be worn so it doesn't turn switch OFF completely ... and when tripper passes the switch, the switch pops out. Same thing happens with box-type electro-mechanical timers when tripper wears out.
Make sure trippers are pushed all the way in toward the center, and tripper is snapped on place.

If timer is new, and trippers are pushed all the way in, then timer sounds defective.

10 year old timer will not shut off any more

It's broken.
I have a FF series countdown timer on a water heater circuit that's been used for past 4 years.
The FF and FD series timers are heavy duty, spring-wound countdown timers.
I expect 10 years is a good lifespan.
You can buy a new spring-wound countdown timer at Home Depot or Lowes, but new ones are lighter weight than the good ol' Intermatic.

Grainger sells the FF60 (60 minute, metal cover)
Grainger shows the FD60 (60 minute, plastic)

Grainger Intermatic timers shows a lot of FF and FD timer choices:
There are several pages of Intermatic timers:
FF5minute thru FF12hour
FD15minute thru FD60minute

Need instructions to program Intermatic Model #E140C wall switch timer.

Do you mean Intermatic E104C box-type timer? Intermatic does not make E140C

Manual says "refer to programming instructions on time switch door"

Manual says timer has 8 events per 24-hour day ... 4 'on' events and 4 'off' events. Normal operations, selectors are set to AUTO and RUN.

Using sketchy info from manual about programming:
Set sliders to MANUAL & TIME/SET
Press EVENT for event 1 ... set hour and minute using HOUR & MIN buttons ... this will be 'on' time
Press EVENT for event 2 ... set hour and minute ... this will be 'off' time
Set all 8 events ... 4 'on' and 4 'off'
Move sliders to AUTO & RUN for timer operation
