The first problem will be to check or replace the cable that you use to connect the phone or check the jack that you use

Cisco 7960 turns it self off

Do you have a power block for the phone or are you getting power from a POE switch via cat5 cable?
How do you know you purchased a working phone? When was the last time the phone worked properly?

Any other information you can supply about your VoIp setup would help us troubleshoot the power issue with your phone.

How power need Cisco 7941G-GE IP Phone

These phones can take their power from a Power over Ethernet switch, where all you need to do is plug the phone in to the switch and it gets its power from there.

You can also get power cubes for these phones, but they do not come with the phone as standard, as most people like the convenience of having the power coming from the switch, and not needing to use up a further power socket in the floor/wall.

Hope that this helps!
