My moniter has a knob for volume control with a green light to indicate that it's on, but I moved it in order to grab something behind it and now there is no sound at all. The moniter came with the Dell...

Try plugging in headphones into your computer. If they work then your audio circuit is working. You can also try running the diagnostics from the the Resource CD, It will have"Diagnostics and utilities" listed under the "Contents". You will have to bootfrom that CD disk. To do this, power on your computer and tap the keyto bring you to the "One time boot menu". Insert the CD and then select CD/DVDdrive and hit key. Selectthe "Run the 32 Bit Dell Diagnostics". Select "Custom Tests" and run the audiotest. If the audio tests fail you might have a problem with your speakers. The easiest and sure fire way to determine if your speakers are the problem is to try another set of speakers.

I have just installed speakers on my computer, but I can't get any sound.

Check to make sure the speakers power up.

Check to make sure you have installed the speakers into the correct jack on the back of the PC.

Go into Control Panel and check the settings by double-clicking the "Sounds and Audio Devices" icon. Make sure the Mute box isn't checked and that the volume is turned up.

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) This is the device Windigo Virtual Audio Device (WDM). Hope you can help.

have you tried going to support.dell.com and downloading the driver again?? There may be a new driver or at least it could replace the driver that may have become corrupt. You can search their drivers by the service tag that is on your PC tower and it should allow you to select the correct operating system and then choose the correct sound driver. Hope this helps... If not please provide more info

Scratching (static) noise coming from computer speakers

I foudn this in anther forum:
I have an ASUS motherboard P5E3 Premium. The audio that came with it was the Sound Max audio. I also noticed abnormal sounds coming from the speakers. They included sounds during hard drive activity and also with mouse movement. They were not loud but noticable. I searched all over the web but didn't find the answer. I stumbled across the fix myself. I also have vista-64. In the sound control panel > speaker properties > levels... there is a pc beep slide bar. I noticed that if it is disabled then the abnormal sound went away completely. Problem solved. Hope this helps.

No sound

Is this a Dell Dimension 4600 PC Desktop?

If so I can help you find sound drivers for it. You have to figure out if the speakers are the problem if you do not get an obvious error to indicate that it is a software problem.

Have you;

Checked power?
Checked plugs to make sure they are in the right place?
Swapped out the speakers with a set that you know work?
Used headphones to make sure the sound is actually coming out of the computer?

Let me know the answers to these questions please.
