Moderate heat during charging or heavy use can be normal. if you feel something is wrong or see any signs that something is seriosly wrong you do have a 1 year warranty on your phone thru LG. verizon may even warranty it in store for you if you make a small scene :-). but if not just call 611 from your device and explain to then whats going on and they will be able to further trouble shoot it with you.

From your description of the problem, it appears your phone's battery needs to be replaced. Because of the danger of damage to your phone from a bad battery, you should replace your battery immediately.
Your phone does not allow recalibration of your battery - as battery consumption is preset from the factory.
