Question about Magic Chef MCBR170 Compact Refrigerator

1 Answer

I have a magic chef 1.7 cubic compact refrigerator, it's been great, but I had quite a bit of ice build up on the little freezer compartment. I unplugged it, and used a hair dryer to melt the ice until it got loose and fell off. I plugged it back in, but noticed it is shutting off before reaching the desired temperature. I moved the thermostat from the usual 4 to 6...is this OK? It is essential that I maintain 39-42 degrees, as I use this for vaccines and they must be kept cold. I have a temperature gauge in there, but see that it is not reaching the desired temp before the unit shuts off. Will this unit reach the right temperature eventually, does it take some time to get cool again, or should I keep adjusting the knob until it reaches the temp and does not stop running until it does reach that temp? I would have thought that eventually it would maintain the right temp at number 4 again. I cannot have the vaccines freeze either...please give me your advice. I cannot locate the instructions unfortunatley. Thank you.

Thank you for your prompt response. I did keep checking on it, and was able to gradually move the temp nob to 4 1/2, and it is keeping the temperature between 39-41 degrees, which is great. I do bird rescue work and also have a flock of my own, the vaccines are preventative medicine done yearly to keep the flock from picking up 2 common viruses...don't worry, they are not contagious to people or other animals. I love this refrigerator, it did well when we moved 3 years ago, 80 miles; it has plenty of room to also keep penicillan, vitamins and herbal remedies for my birds cold, and it is quiet, which is important, because birds tend to want peace and quiet once night falls. Thanks again!

OK as long as you used a hair drier, and not a screw driver to defrost this machine, you should be fine, it shoudl take no more then 24-36 hours to regain the correct temp, this being said, not real comfortable with the over the internet diag of a unit that potentially "keeps people alive"

Magic Chef RB15FA0AA Refrigerator I have this refrigerator and it still works fine. I would like to know it's total cu ft capacity. Also what the refrigerator and freezer each cu ft capacity is.

After some work online...I found this advertisement buried among a bunch of other ads:
Magic Chef RB15-1A: Top-freezer style with 14.6 cubic ft. capacity and optional ice maker -- $439.

So, as I suspected the "15" in the model number is the cubic feet (total I would say). The 14.5 is probably actual, with the unit "rated" as a 15 CF.

Naturally, to find the cu. ft of the freezer, measure in inches then multiply the width X height X depth and divide that resulting rather large number by 1728 to get your cubic feet of the freezer.

You could also do the same with the refrigerated section, and add the results together and they should be near 14.5 total.

Where can I find out where the drain hose is located on my Magic Chef refrigerator?

It should be under the fridge. If you remove the lower acess panel on the back you should see a little tray wich is your drain pan. Mike

I have a Magic Chef Refrigerator Freezer Model MCBR1020W. It is a small 10 cubic capacity for my basement. It is about 18 months old. The freezer works great but the refrigerator compartment never gets to...

Is this a two door refrigerator?
If it is then their is an air duct that allows some air from the freezer to cool the fridge section.
Three things to look for;
Is the air duct blocked
Is the fan blowing air
is the freezer coil frozen over.
Try manually defrosting the fridge. If that helps then you have an auto defrost problem. A technician can help you there
