Question about Dell Inspiron 1501 Notebook

1 Answer

Keyboard malfunction? Recently when I started playing certain games and trying to enter in codes, I found that they did not work. I initially dismissed this as normal for those games, as some will malfunction with too many codes. However, when trying to redefine controls for the same games plus others, the system somehow interprets a signal from the # key (or the = key for some games) without me pressing either of those keys. The problem seems to be system-wide, as my screensavers will not activate in "preview" mode for more than a second. However, word processors do not have this problem and function normally without showing # or = on any keystroke apart from keystrokes I deliberately input. I am particularly perplexed by the # key signal as I am not pressing the Shift button, ergo this should be impossible. I am using Windows Vista Business and the problem has only occurred in the last month or so. I cannot detect any physical fault with the keyboard.

The tests all passed. Neither = nor shift+3 (#) showed any signs of malfunction.

The tests all passed. Neither = nor shift+3 (#) showed any signs of malfunction, and the problem still occurs.

The problem is still there on a new user account. It is exactly the same (ie. it is neither better nor worse than my regular account).

Run a quick diagnostics on the keyboard . To check if the keyboard is OK .
To do the same
1. Shut down your computer
2. Hold down the Fn key and press the power button
3. PSA diagnostics screen would appear , which would test the LCD and you would hear beeps
4. Second a memory test would run
5. It would prompt you to run advanced memory diags , say no to the same
6. Enter the dell 32 bit diagnostics on the next prompt
7. Run a custom test on the keyboard.

Do post the results .

If the test have passed , then the problem is with the software part of the computer.

The best option would be to create a new user account in windows and check , if the problem gets resolved

I unable to play a game because VGA compatible device not found in my computer & i want to install this. How can i install this explain it? & i am using XP

VGA compatible device not found represents that either your bios couldnt recognize the VGA hardware or your OS pnp service couldnt initialize the Hardware for VGA. Either these cases, we should look for the level of Hardware detection at which it fails. If its an onboard VGA device, you may need to replace it with an addon VGA card based on the Mother Board compatibility and then try install it again. This should solve the issue.

Good Luck.

It started going to the 'blue screen', is it the hard drive malfunctioning? It happenede while i was online running world of warcraft.

many things can cause the blue screen of death, including a hard drive malfunction. first question i have is this: do you get this blue screen while operating ANY other program (like Word, Excel, or a 3rd party software)? If you get this blue screen with other software, what is the name of the software and does it happen EVERY time? example: if you were playing "Doom 3" and got the blue screen at the same point in the game every time, it would suggest bad software code. If you only get the blue screen with THIS game, it could be the game code itself. Does someone else you know have a copy you can try? The executable instructions for this game may be trying to make adjustments to your computer's registry. this is another thing that can trigger the blue screen. the computer is pretty touchy about registry confogurations, and yes, a game can work on one model of a certain brand of computer, and have trouble on the same model of a certain brand of computer (the chipset may be different, for example). get back to me on if you see this all the time, or just with this game. my guess is if you are only having the trouble with THIS game, it is either an issue with the game, or with the registry. if you were having hard drive trouble, you would most likely see warnings when you boot the PC - or you wouldn't get to windows at all.

Phantom Key Issue

This bug happens because on some machines (laptops) the keyboard key with the code “e02a” is for the hibernate key or perhaps another one is actuating with in the psftware pr may even be stuck all togerther. try using an external keybaord to see if you can overide the internal keyboard this maybe helpful at least to diagnose what it is you are doing since an older keyboard is hardware and doesn't have "unknown" keys so to speak

Strange laptop problem

I think that maybe a Driver OR that a games DOS Keyboard interpreting, TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident) program that isn't being cleared from memory and this mucks up ya keyboard? Thats only thing I can think of.. and of course any keyboard drivers too, if used. Find any errant programs with Task Manager, and stop it. Also make sure if any, that they aren't set to start automatically.
