R-Button/L-button My R-button won't work properly. If I press real hard, it works, but doesn't stay pressed. My friend's had the same problem, except the L-button. Any suggestions?

Yeah, i figured that the best way is to get it repaired, but $40 IS a lot of money. Thanx for the suggestion.

Actually, i fixed it for now by blowing directly in it (in the spaces between the shoulder button) but i don't know if it will stay fixed.

  • Anonymous May 15, 2008

I had the same problem with both the r and l buttons, and I swear to god this worked for me. I was reading stuff on the internet and I read that if you blow on the button with your mouth sealing the button, it will clean any dust that was keeping the button from responding. It actually works, I bought Metroid Prime Hunters and couldn't jump or shoot, but now I can.

  • Anonymous May 20, 2008

I had the same problem with the L-Button, Googled the problem, brought me here and WHOA! The whole covering it with your mouth and blowing thing totally worked, instantly. That was awesome. Try that before anything else.

  • HKHeartless May 23, 2008

both my DS' L and R were completely non-functional. This was the case for well over three months. Just as I was going to send in for repairs. I googled this, and vola, this fixxed my problem in about 4 minutes.

  • FalcWP Jun 17, 2008

Unbelievable! That fixed it in just two seconds. Just blowing at it didn't work, but forming a seal with my mouth around the button and blowing worked perfectly! Can't believe that worked so well - thanks!

  • Anonymous May 06, 2009

I have had the same problem with my SP, DS, (First one No second one and third one Yes) and DS Lite. For my SP and my second DS The L button didn't work properly. For my SP I noticed that a while back in 2004 when I was playing Mega Man Zero 3. For my Second DS I noticed it when playing Mega Man Battle Network (can't remember which number) and it wouldn't let me go to my folder to use a new chip. For my Third DS both the L Button and R button didn't work which I found out while playing Mega Man ZX, Dragon Ball Z Super Sonic Warriors 2, Naruto Ninja Council 3, and Mario Kart. My DS Lite which I got as an early Birthday gift on May 28th (May 29th is my Birthday) for getting good grades last year had the same problem. It's L and R Button didn't work which I found out while playing Mario Kart it wouldn't let me drift or use my picked up item and my Dragon Ball Z Super Sonic Warriors 2 game it wouldn't let me power up or use my tag team special. But I found out how to fix it (well it works for me) If you blow into the L and or R button through the cracks of it on it's corner it will start to work for a little while or longer it depends.I hope my way of fixing my DS Lite also works for you like it did for me. :]

I had the same problem with my DS Lite where both the R and L botton were not working. The R would work sometimes but I could get no response from the L botton. After looking at the video on YouTube I tried blowing hard around the L and R key and they both started working. I wonder if it is just dust.

I just blew hard around my ds's shoulder buttons right now and i am still thanking the ALMIGHTY GOD because as soon as i blew around it, started working little by little but with my unrelenting faith in GOD, i pressed a few more times and to my uttermost surprise it started working perfectly.so i'm saying a big THANK YOU to GOD ALMIGHTY,and also to soccorman.I'M SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO EXCITED!!!

I know that any device with a key or button has the following:

Underneath the button is a magnetic strip that, when pressed, sends a signal to the device and activates a certain function, depending on what button is pressed. When the magnetic strip is covered by anything (dust, etc), it can be irresponsive. That's why blowing in it can fix it.

The spring on the button may have come loose. if you know somone who is very very good with working on electronic devices then they could do it easy. if your feeling daring you could look for a ds disasembly video on youtube or something. and take it apart yourself. but you might want to buy the special Tri-swing screw driver to open it up. that and a very small philips. i found that if u dont have a tri-wing. a very small flat head will open it too.

Ah, this is a simple (free) repair.

1. get a tissue and wet it a little.
2. squeeze a little water in the cack (it won't hurt on ds, i have no idea about the psp)
3. get a tissue and wrap some tissue around it (works with a Q-itp, however the toothpick is easier)
4. clean out some of the dirt between the cracks
5.enjoy

i had this same problem with my ds and searched "fix ds l and r buttons" and got excellent results. it worked on my l button but not my r button (however, i'm still working on it)

The purpose for the spring is to push the button back to the up position. If the button works only when you push it hard then the switch was probably bent back out of position. Was the unit dropped? Call Nintedo this can be repaired.

Know whats kinda funny? My psp wasnt working on the right button, and i flicked it hard and it started working but not for long, so it's probably a common prblem on hand helds. heres three pieces of advice:
1. dont use it evevevevevevevvevevevevevevevevvever again.
2. keep flicking it when it stops working.
3. get it checked out.

now, it would be good to get a ds fixed, because its way cheaper than getting a psp fixed. a psp fixed costs 82$, so my psp will probably be broken forever.

Blowing on the gameboy button fixed my r button, this is probably because it is blowing out any debris that is between the button and the plastic.

Ok.
This is a very easy problem to fix.
I fixxed mine like this.
Just pull the button out of it's place, and completely remove it. there will be a little bar, and a thin spring. Those aren't needed anymore so you can toss them out.
Then just put it back in place.
It works WAY BETTER THAN new.
If you have any questions, Look me up on myspace([email protected]) or message me on msn.

My R button for my Nintendo DS Lite isn't broken but for some reason it will work without me pressing it! I thought it was just on one game but it's the same for all my games that involve pressing the R button. What do I do?! Should I get it fixed or get a new componite?

This just happened to me about 3 days ago on my L Button. It magically just started working right now when I blew into it for some reason.

  • MARIA8 Nov 16, 2010

My son's DSi L and R button also started working when I blew into it forcefully a couple of times.
I would like to thank you all! MARIA

Probably will if you buy one of those dust remover spray for gaming consoles, you could try to use it to blow off debris and dust that might of went inside. This worked for my system.

Kurio 4s need help

You can perform a reboot by holding the volume + button and power button at the same time. Release the power button after 5 seconds but keep holding the volume + button until a screen appears with options. Press the power button to select reboot. Next you will have to scroll down using the Volume + button again to highlight yes and press the power button to select. If the reboot does not work, you many have to perform a factory reset using the same steps except you have to use the volume + button to scroll down to the factory reset option. Hope this helps.

The disc draw doesn`t open when i press the open button

standing up or laying down?
when standing they sometimes stick, lay it down and if it still won't open then press down on the casing just above the eject button.
if that doesn't work then the unit will have to be opened, the dvd drive taken apart and completely cleaned.

I changed tv's and everything works except the volume buttton on Dish remote. It won't turn down or up or Mute.

I came across your post, autumlite; that's interesting! I have a few steps for you to follow to get that taken care of so you can start enjoying the convenience:

Address To Other Equipment Using Power Scan
  • Remote: All Remotes (except Basic)
    1. With the desired equipment on, press and hold the correct Mode button until all mode button backlights illuminate, then release.
    2. Press and release the Power button. AUX Mode: Before pressing and releasing the Power button
      • Press 0 for a TV
      • Press 1 for a VCR/DVD
      • Press 2 for any other device
      Then Press STAR (*)
    3. Press the Up button once a second while pointing the remote at the desired equipment. Note: If the code for the equipment comes up, the equipment will power off.
    4. Press the POUND (#) button. Note: If the code entered is valid for the remote, the mode light flashes three times.
Hope that helps and let me know if you need any further assistance!

After pressing the red sync button on the console for about 10-15 seconds, and syncronizing the remote, the remote stars to work, but when I start a game the remote is no longer working. Then when I...

There are two ways to sync the Wii remote with the Wii console after pressing the red sync button like you did:

1) Press the "1" and "2" buttons on the Wii remote until the lights begin to flash. This method provides a temporary connection to the Wii.
2) Open the battery cover on the Wii remote and press the red button next to the batteries. This creates a permanent connection or "pair" between the Wii remote and the Wii console.
Based on your description, it sounds like you are using method #1. In order to power on the Wii when the Wii's red light is on (meaning the machine is turned off) and start playing games like you want, method #2 must be used.
Imagine method #1 as "guest mode". If a friend comes over with their Wii remote and wants to play a game, you would open up the game first, use method #1, and your friend would temporarily be connected to the Wii. Using method #1 is like "owner mode" that lets the Wii remote turn the console on and off and always stay connected to it.
Hope this helps!

Wii Balance Board Lights won't stay on

Well - had the same problem, even got a walkthru from Nintendo Support. I was ready to pack it to ship off when, demonstrating everything I had done to a friend -- the darn thing started working again! I think what was going on was the sync was "poor" with the console -- it could sort of see the balance board but not enough to actually work. I did the red-button-on-the-board/ red-button-on-the-Wii thing (press board button then quickly press the console button) several times until it "took" solidly. Don't give up -- keep trying. Yeah their hardware/software has a bug......
