I have dsl connection my server is 6 km fromhome can this affect
Sir , I am from india and i have a problem with my dsl connnection .can distance is a problem in broadband connection because my home is 6 km from the server and isp name is bsnl. my modem is starcom made and its model no UT300R2U. please suggest me what can do .

The average working distance for DSL is 5km. Just because you are 6km from the CO in driving distance the cable running to your house may be (and probably is) a lot longer than that. I would suggest contacting your ISP and see if they can move you to a CO/remote that is closer in wire distance.

unplug everything and then plug it again.
if still dont work then, check the reset button may be its pressed down.
still not working then you need to get it repaired or change it if its under warranty then good.
In order to enable DHCP back in your computer, Please follow these steps:
Click on start than go to control panel than network connection, in Network connection right click on Local Area connection and go to properties there you need to select internet protocol (tcp/ip) and than click on Properties Tab there you will find two options to select
1. Obtain the Ip address automatically 2. USe the following Ipaddress
You need to select Obtain the Ipaddress automatically and than Obtain the DNS server address automatically
Than click on Okay and it will enable you DHCP server,
DSL is PPPOE ( requires you to call up your DSL company and have them reset the PPPOE password every-time the modem gets reset) but with Cable this is not a problem trust me. I used to have DSL and I hated having to call up India everytime my dumb brother hit the reset button on the modem when his Internet was not working. Hope this helps and go with Cable!!
Unfortunately it sounds like the modem may need to be replaced. I had the same issue. Even after doing a complete shutdown, resetting all the cables, restarting the modem and then the computer, it still did not work. After you get the modem replaced, I would suggest you get a spare, possibably from e-bay, so if this happens again, you will not be without DSL Service.
