SOURCE: while typing an email the cursor will jump back a few sentences

If you type like me, it's probably your wrist or the heel of your hand contacting the touchpad -- below the keyboard. An experiment to test this might be for you to cut a small piece of foam (like an old mousepad) and place it over the touchpad. Type away! If the cursor doesn't jump around, remove the foam and type a bit more. If the cursor jumps around, it's likely caused by contact with the touchpad.

I write from experience as I had a Toshiba Satellite A127 -- and found that my right hand would contact the touchpad and sometimes move the cursor around.

I hope this helps!

CharlieJ

SOURCE: cursor skipping and jumping back into previously typed text

Hello,

Have a D600 myself and found anothe post that worked for me!

First, my problem was replying to emails the cursor would jump when typing usually back up into the middle of the text somewhere.

If this is similar, read on.

First, go to Dell's website, downlaod the latest driver for the Alps Touchpad: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R113813&SystemID=LAT_PNT_PM_D600&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=2514&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=7&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=17&fileid=149404

Download the driver but do not install yet. Note, this is for a Dell Latitude D600, Windows XP. Vista may have a different driver.

Open Control Panel/Mouse/TouchPad Tab/Touch Sensitivity Button. Open Touch Sensitivity, adjust below the halfway point on the slider. Try different settings, you may also want to check the "Tap off when typing" box.

If you do not show these properties as above, you probably don't have the latest driver installed. In that case, install the driver you downloaded above then come back and refer to the instructions.

I spend 90% of my day on this D600 and really love it, not a speed demon, but light enought to carry with one hand and is a great email/browser machine as you probably already know!

Before installing tis driver

SOURCE: cursor on my keypad jumps around

If your cursor moves erratically on the screen (for example, if it jumps around the screen, moves at varying speeds, or selects items on its own), perform the following steps:

1. Clean the surface of the touchpad with a dry, soft cloth to remove grease, sweat, moisture, or other liquids.

2. Adjust the sensitivity of the touch pad:.

a. Click the Start button and click Control Panel.

b. Click Printers and Other Hardware.

c. Click Mouse.

d. When the Mouse Properties window appears, click the Pointer Options tab.

e. Under Select a pointer speed:, click to move the slider bar closer to Slow.

f. Click OK.

g. Check to see if the touch pad still behaves erratically.

3. If the touchpad still caused the cursor to behave erratically, attach an external mouse to your computer and restart your computer. Use the external mouse to see if your cursor still moves erratically.

4. After connecting an external mouse, uninstall the touchpad driver from the Device manager listed under the "mice and other pointing devices" category and restart the Computer.

5. Download the Touchpad driver compatible to the Operating System installed on the Computer from the manufacturer's site and install it after restarting the Computer.

Good luck!!!!!!!!!!

How do i fix keystrokes that jump backward as I type?

Some Lenovo touchpads are over sensitive and they cause the cusor to slip or jump around. In Control Panel select Mouse or Touchpad. A box will open and you can locate touchpad Properties and adjust the sensitivity. Lenovo also has updated touchpad software/drivers for one or two of the most troublesome models. i was able to reduce the cursor jumping around quite a bit by adjusting the sensitivity, but i still don't think it's a good design.

Cursor jumping around while typing text

You wouldn't have some live insect in your keyboard have you? I've seen Microwaves do strange stuff when infested with some tiny insects BUT I doubt it's the case with your machine. I am trying to recall a Keyboard key that I sometimes accidentally press when trying to create a document using Word, etc which does the same or similar to what you've described. It pees me of as I don't know which button I hit, it is one of the main reasons I avoid Word, Outlook, etc. Please let us know if solved, cheers.

Why does the cursor jump around while typing. I need this to stop.

By any chance, is there a touchpad below the space bar? Are your thumbs and sleeves clear of the touchpad, or accidentally touching it?

The page scrolls up and down - somtimes even jumps up and down - when the cursor is nowhere near the right hand of the screen where the vertical scroll bar is.

It is possible you might have picked up a virus, or a bad device driver. Try a system restore taking the computer back in time before this happened, may resolve the issue.

Does your laptop have touchpad that acts as a mouse if you don't have a mouse plugged in (it's usually directly below the spacebar)? If any part of your hand accidentally brushes that sensitive rectangular area, it will cause the mouse cursor to jump around.

There is usually a button you can push at the top of the rectangular touchpad to turn it off while you're typing. On my HP laptop it has a blue light, and when I push the button it turns red.

Typing problem

the problem is where the mouse cursor is. When you begin to type have the mouse cursor as far down the page as possible the glide pad can pick up the slightest variant of pressure and move your text to the position where the mouse cursor is.
