Question about Fellowes P58CS Cross Cut Shredder

Open Question

RESET BUTTON The shredder stopped running. I've let it cool down for over an hour. I've determined that no one has been oiling the shredder on a regular basis--if ever. Is the red-slide button next to the i/o button the reset button? If so, how does it work? I've pushed the button toward the shield with the line through it and back to the shield with no line though it. Is this correct? I don't have time to download the manual, and no one here seems to know where the original manual is. Any and all help would be appreeciated. mfcobb1@aol.com 1/16/2013

SOURCE: PowerShred C-220 will not shred automatically

OK lets try.
You likely have a photo sensor that detects the paper and it is dirty.
It is likely covered with paper dust (hopefully only on the outside)
Locate the sensor and wipe it off or just wipe the entire throat area.
WITH MACHINE OFF
Hope this helps

SOURCE: Fellowes PS60C-2 shredder doesn't shred

there are two switches under the cutter area. 1 for sensing when your basket is full, (sometimes these bin-full flaps get stuck in the up position, energizing the switch) and the other is a switch that detects if your basket is installed. fellowes has modified these shredders so many times, that there are alot of different configurations. look for something that resembles a flap under the head and make sure its in the down position. as for the basket sensor, some baskets had 2 projections on the left and right top of basket. one may be broke. if so, you can "cheat" the switch with a screwdriver to see if thats the problem.

Infoguard sq70B shredder stopped and will not turn on. It is very hot. What do I do?

Usually shredders get hot when over used. If you have a reverse switch, use it to see if something is stuck in the shredder. I've found small but very hard balls of paper in the sides, so they do need cleaned out every once in awhile. Also most need oiled with a light oil so you may need to check that too. More often than not an over worked shredder will heat up and stop until cool again.

How do I oil the shredder

Found this that should help:
Oiling Instructions for Fellowes Shredders
Why and How Often: Regular oiling of cross-cut and micro-cut shredders is a necessary maintenance step to help keep your shredder functioning properly and prolong its life. Several factors determine how often you should oil your shredder-such as the type of paper being shred, the amount of paper being shred, and whether you shred only occasionally or continuously for long periods of time without stopping.
  • As a general rule, it is a good practice to oil your shredder each time you empty the wastebasket, or once a month.
  • Micro-cut shredders need to be oiled more frequently-ideally after every 15 minutes of use.
How To: Press and hold down the reverse button on your shredder. Put the tip of the oil bottle in the paper entry and make one or two sweeps across the cutters while gently squeezing the oil bottle. Continue to run the shredder in
reverse for another 10-15 seconds.
What to use: It is recommended that you use Fellowes Oil to oil your shredder. You may also use other oil designated for shredder use.
Do not use any oil or lubricant that is dispensed from an aerosol container.
Do not use any petroleum-based oils or lubricants. Use of such oils or lubricants will void the warranty on your shredder and could cause serious injury, as they are fire hazards when used with electronic devices.

How to lubricate a Black & Decker Model BD-s600 paper shredder

    • 1 Turn the paper shredder off and unplug it.
    • 2 Clean out the paper shredder. Make sure the blades are free of paper bits and debris. Remove pieces of paper that are jammed around the blades.
    • 3 Spray the shredder oil through the blade opening or throat of the shredder. Spray it in a stream.
    • 4 Plug the shredder back in and switch the reverse button on. Then run it for 10 to 30 seconds in reverse to allow the blades to be saturated with shredder oil.
    • 5 Put the shredder in forward motion and let it run again to disperse the oil thoroughly to all areas of the cutting blades.
    • 6 Feed a couple pieces of paper through the blades to be shredded and absorb any extra shredding oil.

Overheated ativa shredder. How long does it take the machine to cool down on average? Our machine is 2 + years old. T-MC 1000. Thanks for your help.

Small Shredders like these are not continuous duty machines.Meaning they are use for very very short time intervals. If it's "heating" up right away, the motor may be going bad. Shouldn't take 15 minutes to cool down after a short use period.
Here's a suggestion: Just before you run paper thru it next time, squirt some oil all the way across the cutting blades. Then run the paper. (Oh, and make sure you have some shredded paper in the basket to catch and absorb the excess oil) Good luck.

Knocking noise when shredding paper

Hello,

Cross-cut shredders require monthly oiling of the cutting cylinders to maintain proper operation. Failure to oil the blades regularly could result in excessive noise during operation.

Oiling Your Shredder's Cutting Blades:

To keep your shredder in top condition, the cutting blades need to be oiled every so often (for frequency, please refer to your owner's manual). We recommend using Powershred® Lubricant or a vegetable-based oil (such as corn or canola) in a non-aerosol container with an extension nozzle.

Caution: Never use flammable synthetic oil, petroleum-based, or aerosol lubricants to oil the cutting blades. Some agents may combust, causing serious injury. NEVER USE WD40.

1. Depress and hold the reverse button down.
2. Put the tip of the oil bottle in the paper entry and make one or two sweeps the length of the entry while squeezing the oil bottle.
3. Move the power switch to Auto (I) position, or depress the manual forward button (depending on model of shredder) and allow the blades to run at least three seconds.
4. Move the power switch to Reverse (R) position and allow it to run for at least three seconds.
5. Repeat steps three and four above at least three times.

I hope the above helps....

Good luck.

My shredder stopped working in the middle of a shred. I have cleaned all shredding from it, but it still refuses to run. Is there a thermo cut off switch, and if so, where?

  • Shut off the shredder. Unplug it and let in cool down for up to one hour. This will work if the shredder has stopped due to excessive use.

  • 2

Check to see if the shredder is jammed. This is the most common cause of shredder problems. Click the power switch to reverse, which should clear a minor jam. If not, set the shredder to auto, and then to reverse again until the jam clears.

  • 3

Clear extremely stubborn paper jams by grabbing the stuck paper and gently pulling it out. If smaller pieces of paper cause the jam, shut off the shredder and unplug it. When it cools down, carefully use a pair of tweezers to remove the paper bits.

  • 4

Determine if the power supply to the shredder is working properly. If the power supply is cold, use an alternative source of electricity for your shredder. If it is warm, there may be a problem with the shredder itself. Call your office machine repair shop or the shredder manufacturer for assistance.

  • 5

Sharpen or oil the blades. Shredder blades need to be oiled on a regular basis to keep your machine in proper working order. Get oil made specifically for shredder blades from an office supply store.

My shredder keeps running and won't stop in on/auto mode

    UNPLUG THE SHREDDER.

If this model has electronic eyes (optics) to control the auto-start/stop function and you oil the cutters, chances are the optics are contaminated with shredder oil. Take a cotton swab with a little alchohol and clean and dry the optics.

If you removed the top cover, it is a possibility that you disconnected the wires from the PC Board.
