If the laptop is running windows then click on Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the black(DOS) window that pops up type ipconfig and press enter. It should give you the IP address of your computer as well as other connection info.
Also you can go to http://192.168.1.254/xslt?PAGE=J08 to view all devices connected to your 2wire

Can't access modem from desktop

If your DSL works on PPPOE then you need to setup PPPOE on the 2wire router with the Complete Username and the PAssword for the PPPOW connection, if your DSL works on a Local IP address like 192.168.1.254 or 192.168.1.1 then first check the gateway address of the 2wire Router, if it's in the same IP address range like the DSL Modem like 192.168.1.x the you need to change the Local IP address of the router from 192.168.1.x to 192.168.2.x that should get you up and running with the DSL Modem.

I have 3 laptops connected to a bell 2wire router. They are all able to connect wirelessly to the router and access the internet fine. But I am trying to connect my hp2605dn printer to the router with a...

To install a HP printer (with built-in Jetdirect print server) as a network printer you need to do the following -
1. Open the printer’s menu and enable the Network Card – then configure the IP address of the network card so it matches the IP range of your network. Eg. If your IP's are 192.168.0.xxx then set the network card to a high number say 100 then set the Subnet Mask IP address to 255.255.255.0

If you have a wireless router then check the IP addresses that the router issues to the computers on your network and configure the IP address in the printer accordingly.
2. Install the HP printer driver on your computer/s using the LPT printer port.
3. Connect the printer with a LAN cable to the network hub/router.
4. Click on Printers and Faxes - right click on the HP printer and click on Properties.
5. Click on Ports and click on Add Port.
6. In available ports - click on Standard TCP/IP Port and then Configure port.
7. Tick the IP box and type in the IP address of the HP's printer IP address.
8. Click OK and tick Enable bi-directional support and then OK

Install the HP printer driver on every computer on your network and configure the printer’s TCP/IP port as previously detailed.

Do a test print page to check the printer.
You can now print from any computer on your network.

Not able to connect to desktop with ethernet cord

What is the current IP address?

Can you ping the default gateway?

Did you also do:ipconfig /flushdns and
ipconfig /registerdns

Have you tried uninstalling / reinstalling the network card? (inside device manager)

Hope any of this helps.

Just got a new laptop through work and need to set up wireless.

You need to set up the IP address of your wireless card. Go to control panel> Netork> Wireless Network Connection. Then right click Wireless Network Connection and select TCP/IP and click Properties. and set up your ip addresses. Then it will be connected.

No connection to laptop.

I would imagine that you have the desktop wired to the 2wire router... Does the desktop have a static or dynamic IP? If you want it to be dynamic you will have to setup DHCP on the router to give the laptop an IP address... Otherwise set the IP on the laptop to the same subnet that the desktop and router are on, i.e 192.168.1.0... Make sure that the laptop is has a static (doesnt change) IP or its setup to receive an IP from the router or another DHCP server, if you have a DHCP server on your network... To make the laptop a DHCP client, set the wireless NIC to automatically select an IP and automatically select DNS servers, this can be done thru the control panel>network connections, then select your wireless NIC, right-click on it and select properties, on the first page of the properties menu, highlight TCP/IP then click on the properties button and when that screen appears, select the radio button for automatic selection of IP and DNS... if you will not be using dynamic IP/DHCP, you will manually have to enter the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and DNS server IPs.... Let me know if this helps or if I can clearify something for you! Best of luck!

Home Network sharing issues using 2wire wireless modem

Did you manually assign the IP address to your shared devices? If so, the Linksys and the 2wire have different IP schemes.

2wire Gateway IP address:
192.168.1.254
255.255.255.0

Do an ipconfig /all on your computer and compare it to the ip scheme on your devices.

Purchase a different router and return the 2wire to the ISP explaining it is not compatible with your equipment at home. You may need to provide them with the new router's MAC address.

Wireless Internet

I am guessing you are connecting that netgear card wirelessly? Does it get an IP address? Have you tried pinging the router from the laptop once the connection has been made? Try this. Go to the start menu, click the run button and in there type cmd and press enter. Once the black command prompt is open try ping yahoo.com See if that comes up with anything. Also try typing ipconfig and press enter. It will show 3 things.
IP address
subnet
gateway.

The gateway should be your 2wire modem.
Try ping gateway ip and see if that works.

Let me know! thank you.
