Question about 2wire 2700HG-B Router (2700HGB)

Have SBCglobal with 2wire but want N wireless capability

I currently have a 2wire wireless router that has DSL ran through a standard phone line that connects directly into the back of the 2wire router. I wanted to connect to a linksys wireless N gaming adapter for my DirecTV On-Demand feature. The 2wire doesnot support N wireless.I have been told that I need to get either a G gaming adapter or an N capable router. I looked at a Linksys router that supports both G & N wireless but the connection to it requires an ethernet not a standard phone line connection. How do I get my DSL into it? It says the phone line should run to the modem , then from the modem to the Linksys router. Do I need to run my phone companies phone line ( that carries my DSL) into the back of my computer to an internal modem ( that I only assume it must have), then out to the Linksys router. I am confused because the phone line currently goes into the 2wire and then an ethernet cable goes from the 2wire to my computer for internet connection. This would seem to be the reverse.

Follow the dots -

2 wire DSL wire to back of DSL modem.

Ethernet cable out of DSL modem, to current router (if you have one).

Ethernet cable out of current router (if you have one) to new Wireless N router.

If you currently have a wireless G router, keep it, or, use the new Wireless G/N router alone. You will need to set up all security settings again if you remove your current router, and if the new router is N only, you will need to make sure all your wireless connecting computers have wireless N cards in them.

I want use my 2wire (2701HG-B) Wireless Router without the dsl line

Modem and routers are considered only as access point you computer may be able to connect to your router but if you dont have a DSL line you will not be able to go on line... if you dont want a DSL line there are service that concentrates on wireless alone... in this DSL line are not required nor router but may provide you a USB wireless adapter that has their wireless service then again try calling an Internet Service provider for this options...
thanks... Roger

I have a 2wire router, if I purchase a couple new laptop computers which are wireless ready, do I need to purchase wireless adaptors for networking?

No, not at all.
I can't even think of a newer laptop model that comes without wireless capability anymore.

Which 2wire router you have, determines the speed of your wireless network.Make sure when you buy a laptop, that it's wireless capabilities match those of the router. The standard today is 802.11g, backwards compatible with 802.11b. 802.11n is a new standard (backwards compatible to 802.11b/g), and both router and computer have to support this standard in order to use it.

If your DSL light goes green solid to red check to make sure all your phones are filtered. Make sure your not filtering your 2Wire.

run the telephone line from your modem into the wall jack. From the modem connect a network cable (cat5) into the back ( via the uplink port) of your linksys router . Your router can now route the IP from the modem.

Connecting ADSL wireless modem router to COMCAST

unfortunately you can't because the 2wire is a dsl modem it has to use the phone line to connect to the internet, it would be different if it was just a router but since it is a modem it needs that connection to the phone line in order to work

CAN A 2WIRE DSL ROUTER WORK WITH A CABLE INTERNET CONEECTION

The 2wire dsl modem/router cannot be use with a another cable modem , since this 2wire device is also a modem/router and its made for the DSL conenction that's why it wont work with Cox cable, the best thing that you can do is to ask Cox to give a wireless modem/router like this 2wire so you can still use the wireless connection of your computer..

Hope that helps..........

ISP problem with 2wire 2700HG-B

When I purchased the same router on Amazon I did my best to set it up on my own, but you need the correct IP information you can only get from your customer support at AT&T. I'm using this router with an old Airport card in an 2003 iBook and a 2007 iMac (built in Airport express card). The set-up was all done wirelessly, with bellsouth (AT&T) customer service instructing me over the phone, the process took about 15 minutes.
My suggestion is to call AT&T and speak with someone who knows what their doing, and they do use the SBC global page to set up the unit, starting with http://192.168.1.254/ for the system summary, from there you can set up your password etc...
