F28 is a serial bus error from the CCU (Central Control Unit) to the MCU (Motor Control Unit).

All you need is some Electronics contact cleaner spray and a 1/4 inch socket to remove the top of the machine and the back of the machine.
The CCU is the computer looking box at the top front right hand corner.
Find connector M13, (has red marking on it and only 3 wires) disconnect it by pushing the retainer tab back and pulling gently on the connector.
Spray the contacts of the connector and computer with connector cleaner.
Then re-assemble connector.
The MCU is in the back lower left corner.
Find the connector with 3 wires and red mark, and remove this connector in the same way you did the other, spray it and re-install.
Put the back and top back on.

I have a whirlpool duet sport that is displaying F28 code. I have replaced the ccu unit now what do I do. It fills but will not wash, drains but will not spin HELP PLEASE!

For the F28 error code:
First, check the wiring harness connections to the MCU, the Motor, and the CCU. Make sure all the connections are tight and there are no ground wires off. Then check the connections of the CCU board within the housing.

If the wiring connections are fine then It would be a good idea to order both, as both components have been problematic for the error code F28.

Here is the CCU to order.

Here is the MCU to order.

Getting a F28 code and the machine wont drain

Hi,
The F-28 code is a communication error between the Central Control Unit (CCU) and the Motor Control Unit (MCU).

1.Unplug the washer
2.Check the wire harness connections to the MCU, the motor, and the CCU
Check connections of the CCU board within the housing.
Make sure all grounding switches are engaged.
1.Check the drive system for any worn or failed components.
2.Plug in washer or reconnect power.
3.Verify CCU operation by running a Diagnostic Test or any cycle.
4.Check the MCU by looking for operations of the drive motor.
5.Check the drive motor for powered rotations.
6.Check that the serial harness at the MCU is not mounted upside down. The wires should be to the left when facing the MCU connectors.

Hope this helps.

Code f28

Hi, the error code F28 means one or both of these parts are bad.
  • Motor Control Unit (8540135)
  • Microcomputer Machine Control Unit (8540788)
It would be a good idea to order both, as both components have been problematic for error code F28. If you find either the MCU or the CCU(Microcomputer Machine Control Unit) fixed it.
