Freezer coils are frozen have to turn off and thaw

1st reset your unit,, do this by setting the temp to off and unplug for 5 - 10 mins. this will put it in an automatic defrost mode. mine built an ice bank on the evap, remove the back wall of the freezer(6 screws) and use a blow dryer to melt, remove it all,DO NOT CHIP IT OUT the coils are very thin.. now if this continues its one of 2 things defrost timer is bad, or you have an air gap allowing moisture in,,,ice maker door.... both easy fixes

The freezer is running and is set to the coldest setting but still is not cold enough to freeze our food. Ice has melted and food in the freezer is beginning to thaw.

The condenser coils dissipate heat. If dust and debris accumulate around the coils, your refrigerator may not be able to cool properly, it may run continuously or it may stop completely as a result of an overheated compressor.

1. Make sure condenser is clean.

2. If you have a "rear mounted" condenser (black coil on back) make sure it has enough room around it for air to circulate. Not against the wall and if under cabinet should have about six inches clearance.

Rear-Mounted CoilsYou should clean rear-mounted coils once a year. Unplug the refrigerator before cleaning. Refrigerators are heavy, never tip one forward or backward. Never attempt to move a refrigerator without an assistant.

Vacuum or brush the coils. If coils have a filmy build-up, use warm soapy water to clean them. Take care not to spill or drip water onto the components of the refrigerator.
Floor Level CoilsYou should clean floor level coils at least twice a year. Unplug the refrigerator before cleaning. Vacuum or brush the coils.
Remove the grill from the front of the refrigerator and use a vacuum with a wand attachment to remove any dust and debris. The grill should snap off and on. Pull firmly toward you and possibly upward to remove the grill. If it does not come off with a modest effort, check for screws or retaining clips that may hold it in place.

My freezer and refrig are not staying cold, the freezer is defrosting and ice is forming on the back of the freezer.

Many times a freezer and/or refrigerator
do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other
things that can go wrong.

I have a KitchenAid Side by Side Refrig Model KSRD25FKWH01 that seems to have stopped cooling. The freezer compartment is starting to defrost and the food storage side seems to be not as cold as 2 days...

My first thought is that your compressor has failed. But before fearing the worst, there are a couple of things to check.
Is the underside of the refrigerator where the air blows across the condenser coils all plugged up with dirt and dust??
If so then the compressor may be so hot that it has shut down. Vacum or blow out the condenser coils and unplug the unit so the compressor can cool down.
Check the compressor to see if it is running. If it is and you are getting no cooling then you may have a refrigerant leak. These can often be very hard to find in a refrigerator. Look for an oil stain or mark in the dust. The refrigerant escaping will leave the oil behind and often mark where the leak is. Fixig a leak and recharging is difficult. The exact charge is often hard to achieve in refrigerators. And if there is one leak often times there are more about to happen.

Hopefully this will help you to get to the bottom of the problem you have and solve thiss mystery.

Side by side Magic Chef refrigerator. Freezer

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp ..

Could also be begining of a defrost problem.

Not blowing cold air

Most likely evaporator coils are iced near solid...few hours unplugged would have helped just a little...needs major defrosting though.
The automatic defrost cycle will never fix it when it gets this bad...if it's still working yet.

I have one of these and have had to use heat gun/ hair dryer more than once to defrost it.

Probably the cause...which will need fixed or it will do it again sooner or the melted frost/ice goes down a little drain tube and dumps into tray to evaporate above coils...this tube gets plugged first with dust and then when melted frost drains and stands in tube the tube get plugged with frozen water.

You see it is important to unplug or fridge will self destruct.

Amana ABB2224DES Stainless Steel Bottom Refrigerator is warm however the freezer works fine. How do I solve this problem? I vacuumed the coil and renoved most of the dust accumulation. Is there a way...

check freezer for frost build up and if FAN is blowing, check condenser, make sure its clean, and fan blowing, check vents in refrig. make sure no blockage, controls should be in the middle setting, make sure u didnt turn up freezer control cutting air supply to refrigertor side should be 1/2 feel vent coming from freezer see if you feel any air coming in to refrig.
