Will not print

I have a Canon i950 printer. It was working fine, but after I replaced the black ink cartridge, it quit printing. The light on top of the printer blinks green, then orange 7 times, then back to green. The only thing my computer will tell me is that the printer is not responding. Help me please! I need this printer for school!

I don't think they're very old. Definitely less than a year. The ink looked fine & the package was sealed well.

  • megenfaulkne Jan 24, 2009

The green lights never stop blinking & go solid. It just goes right back to blinking orange 7 times, then back to green.

I tried turning it off, holding down the resume button when I push the power button, continue holding the power button and let go of the resume button, hit resume button twice, then the green lights never stop blinking & go solid for me to hit the resume button 4 times. It just goes right back to blinking orange 7 times, then back to green.

I does this when I turn it on. It doesn't matter if I've even asked it to print something for me. Paper is loaded properly, but that doesn't really matter since I can't get past the blinking light for it to even try to print.

I've done all of this over & over again. I finally broke down & dug up my old printer out of my basement & got it working. Thanks for trying.

Try to put the old black in cartridge so we can check if that lights will be gone, so we can check if this just a problem with the enw cartridge that you have so if everything will be fine with the old cartridge better replace the new one...

Did you load the papers properly?
Sometimes it blinks in orange due to that.

How old were the replacement ink cartridges? That's probably the @1 reason for printer errors during a cartridge changeover.

Anything over 6 months would be suspect, less if the air tite package seal was broken.

Take the cartridges out of the printer.
Place the ink end of the cartridge onto a clean paper towel folded over several times.
    Shake downward hard.
Remove paper towel and see if ink came out, and was the pattern even. Do the same for all cartridges, and the pattern left on the paper towel should be the same for all colors.

Reset the printer by turning off, then back on.

Also check that the printer is selected as your primary printer by right clicking and selecting "Make Default Printer".

Reply back after you do this, and I will help you further.

How do I change the print cartridges?

  • Open the printer cover and prop it up with the support brace located on the right-hand side of the cover.
  • Remove the black FINE ink cartridge from its container and locate the protective tape. Gently remove the protective tape used to cover the print head nozzles and electrical contacts.
  • Insert the black FINE ink cartridge into the printer slot labeled "B." It will rest on a slight angle. Push the cartridge up and back until it clicks into place.
  • Repeat the process for the color FINE ink cartridge, placing it in the slot labeled "C."
  • Raise the printer cover slightly to loosen the support brace. Fold the brace inward and replace the cover to its closed position.
  • A green LED light will flash on top of the printer. In about a minute, the LED stops flashing and displays "1." Once the "1" appears, you're ready to print.

Sketchy printing, yellow and black very faint

Try to change the inkjet cartridges for the black and color because you may only be able to get no more than 105 pages out of a cartridge, assuming it hasn't gone through a cleaning process which uses up a lot of ink.

Unfortunately, most ink jet printers have very expensive ink for printing small jobs, compared to say a laser printer.

Alarm on: reads wrong cartridge in window

Problem may be due to your not printing for quite some time. The ink can start to dry and clog the print heads.
Use a Q-tip slightly moistened with water to clean cartridge ports and print head.

Up until today, my i950 was printing perfectly. Today, after it flashes green, I get 7 flashing yellow lights. I noticed one ink cartridge was loose. Putting it back into place did not fix the problem,...

It indicate that your print head may defective probably cause by electrical connection. OK u may try this, unplug the print head and clean the print head electrical contact part and also the printer itself contact part with dry paper and install it back. Make sure the contact part is fix into the holder completely. Hope this help.

I believe the print heads are under the ink cartridges. They might have little handles on them.

Printer will not print black ink

    Hi please try these steps:::

Right-click the printer icon, and then select 'Properties'.
    2. Click the 'Maintenance' tab, and then click 'Deep Cleaning'.

    maintdeep.jpg

    3. Select 'All Colors', 'Black' or 'Color' for the print head to be cleaned.

    allcolorsorblack.jpg

    4. Read the message displayed, and then click 'OK'. The power lamp blinks and print head deep cleaning starts. (Do not perform any other operations until print head deep cleaning is complete. Print head deep cleaning takes about 1 minute.)

IF ABOVE STEPS DOESN'T WORK TRY THESE STEPS BELOW

Check ink tank vent hole The ink tank requires air to flow through it so ink can move from the reservoir to the print heads.

    1. Confirm there is no orange tape across the top of the ink tank

    2. If the orange tape is as shown in Figure (1), it is properly removed.

      ink_tank_tape.jpg

      *BCI-3's shown in this example.

    3. If the orange tape is as shown in Figure (2), remove the remaining tape to the level shown in Figure (1).

    4. Make sure each ink tank is snapped into the printer.

IF THESE STEPS DIDNOT WORK THEN YOUR PRINTER NEEDS REPAIR(You might need to change the printer head.)
