Hang up the „hp“ personnel :) ...really they aren´t too much of help with hundreds of people complayining about the same fault over & over again !!No fix , no advice people try help each other but with no obvious success...I tried everything except the windows
reinstallation. But this the last thing i would do because such piece of Going to return my printer soon and buy the Canon Pixma one as the price is the same and they are working like charm with no effort at all with very intuitive interface. HP should learn from Canon to make applications for their stuff really open for people or at least try to not to fucked up people for months with the things no one wants to care with at home or even in work (registry arrangment etc with no result ...what´s that all for ?) ! Sorry for bothering here it´s just 1.000 000 post i read about the Msi.dot4wrp something which ´s still on my screen! Take Care and Good Luck!

OK the basic function of the file atl.dll is registering the software, atl.dll will actually combine the software to check your operating system and if there aren't multiple faulty registry entries then it will install perfectly, here's what you need to do.

HP L4 or whatever doesn't always do the job.
If all the other fixes around don't work for you you'll need this one; But it's tough. And scary. A real last resort.
You'll need to delete, manually, any references to HPq HPw HPx and in fact any other to HP. From teh registry (REGEDIT) and folders. ( Windows and System32 especially).
In system32 you may well find some that won't delete. (Including an msidot4wrp.exe or something similar to that)
I used a boot into Linux, a LiveCD version will do. Then I navigated to the folder and took the HP files ourt that way.
But be aware, this is not for the faint hearted. This is war!
The enemy is HP, but Microsoft's OS is the unwilling ally and may become the accidental casualty.

SOURCE: when installing deskjet f2180 comes

The same problem occured with my new C7280 All-in one. Tried to install on another PC and this worked. So it seems there is a problem in the Windows software System32 on the first PC (both XP).
Of course the HP software is should be able to solve this...

SOURCE: unable to install software on hp c4480

This is a very very tricky issue.
For a long period of time there was no known resolution for this.
but now you can resolve this too.

Follow the mentioned steps very carefully:

>> use the following links depending on your OS:

for Windows XP:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-62152-3&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3560280&os=228&lang=en

For Windows Vista:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-62152-3&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3560280&os=2093&lang=en

click on download only and download the software for PHOTOSMART C6380

>> run it and install it(keep the USB CABLE DISCONNECTED before installing)
>> during the installation you will be prompted to connect the usb cable.
DO NOT CONNECT THE USB CABLE
>> there will be a small check box that will tell you to check it if you want to connect the cable later.
>> CHECK THAT BOX and continue with the installation.

>>>>>>
After the installation completes successfully...
insert the disc for your printer (i.e C4480)

Error message 2753 MSI.dot4wrp message when trying to install HP Photosmart c4480

I had the same problem. I tried to install my new HP Photosmart 8550 printer onto my HP desktop, I am running on Vista 64 bit. Kept getting fatal error MSI.dot4wrp40 over and over again. Upset that my Windows installer was corrupted. I search the internet for this error and realized that this only comes up with NEW HP Printers and scanners. I went to Epson's website and downloaded a driver for one of their photo printers and downloaded the driver for the Epson Stylus Photo1400 Vista 64 bit driver, and guess what it installed I went and bought this printer and I am up and running again. Sorry HP I am jumping ship. The week before I tired to install this HP printer, I installed Print Shop Pro Publisher 23, Blackberry desktop, and Canon digital utilities which in fact all use Window Installer. All installed with no problem, and they are all working. I believe this error message has to be a conflict between HP and Microsoft's 64 bit OS only.... Google THIS ERROR and you will notice only HP comes up.
