I HAVE a JBL 180 SUBWOOFER and the soundlevel control has some flat spots where there is no sound so I believe the potentiometer needs to be replaced, So I unscrewed all screws holding the electronics box...

Is that really necessary? In most installations that pot is a set-and-forget control. Find a sweet spot and live with it. I've always gone into a speaker by removing the driver.

My subwoofer makes a rumbling and popping sound when in either Standby or On modes.

Check your grounding spot, u need your ground wire to be in direct contact with the chasis and no paint.

make sure it is fixed in place tight so it can not move

Subwoofer will not power up

More likely to have shorted out Class D amplifier module that was badly designed.
Here are the service manuals:

I modified my using Linear Amp IC from TI, bot the same power but loud enough for me. http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/JBL%20PB-12%20mod/

JBL spot series speaker not working.

I know this is old but just incase anyone has the same problem. Its proabably the connection from back panel to the internal amp (Inside the sub enclosure). The ribbon cable has the + for the left speaker right at the edge with quite a bit of tension. Over time and with the vibrations from the sub this will bend/pull out slightly and needs to be pushed back on and some hot glue put around the connection to hold it in place.

Thats how I fixed mine anyway.

Jbl PB12 powered sub woofer

if your serial number starts with ha then it's probably a bad capacitor C72 . 6.8uf 100v np electrolytic. replace it with a higher voltage capacitor of the same value.
