As long as you have a suitable connector, either USB, the new standard or a parallel port (old) and an appropriate cable, it should work fine. I'm not sure if E-Machines even sells printers, and if they do, they are most likely made by someone else.

Is hooked up to computer but says it not hooked op to computer will no print off computer

this could be a communication problem.

you need to make sure that the cable that you are hooking up is the one that came with the printer,also you may need to plug the cable into a different port and check if the computer detects it.

{take intensive care in case you follow these steps. }
there is an entry for USB printing support
and USB composite device in the device manager under USB devices, if you remove these entries. the computer will start detecting the plug and play device and hence will detect the printer.

Hooking up to computer

Just connect the printer and it will automatically get detected.

Alternatively, go to www.hp.com and select the printer model and the operating system and download the driver and install it.

Hp officejet all in one

I assume from your message that you mean you can't print a document from your computer or send and receive faxes. Chances are, you'll have to reinstall the printer, just the same way as when you first bought it and hooked it up to your PC. Also, the operating system on your computer is going to make a difference. For example, if you originally hooked the printer up to a Windows XP computer and now you're hooking it up to a Windows Vista computer, you'll need to install different print drivers.

I don't know if you have the original manuals or disks that came with the printer. If not, a good place to start would be to download the manual from HP.com. That'll at least get you started:

Manuals page

It would be really helpful if you were to post what steps you took to connect your printer to your PC once you got the printer out of storage. Also, how long had it been in storage, are you hooking it up to the same PC or a different PC than before you put it in storage, and are you hooking it up to the PC differently now than before (printer cable vs. USB cable, for example)?

Thanks.

Printer prints garbage

Did it ever work on new system or never has. Sound like either a software conflict or similar but most likely it doesn't like new machine specs. Have you made sure no other printer software is accidentally installed. Are specs for new system and printer compatable. Some manufacturers specify their machines specifically do not like certain OS's and specs. Because pc and software tech is going so fsat it is really hard for manufacturers to keep up, just as they run off their new printer, state of the art, microsoft brings out a new OS etc, and voila, a new updateddriver is needed. Have you considered it may be the pc causing the errors, ie the registry (from malware,spyware etc) not allowing proper installation. This can and does happen. Just last week, my friends printer was perfectly fine, she had some spyware and we had to edit the registry as it had corrpted where the printer was installed but also her cd rom drive icon and use were wiped out. Run antispyware virus and registry scans to eliminate these. Also try installing printer off a back up copy of the disc not original, good luck.
