My washer doesnt spin enough to ring out clothes, timer ok, lid switch is ok, motor is ok,drive coupling is ok, would there be a belt or coupling inside the transmisson?looks like theres a clutch or some kind of break above the transmission,if its a clutch can i replace it without special tools,if its a break can it be adjusted?, Any help would greatly be appeciated, I have the same problem (Kenmore 80 series topload washer, model #110.24832200. Door or Lid Latch Assembly If the washer won't spin or agitate the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design. Motor Coupling If the washer won't spin or agitate the motor coupling might have failed. The motor coupling connects the motor to the washer transmission. It is designed to fail if the washer is overloaded in order to protect both the motor and
Drive Belt If the washer won't spin or agitate, check the drive belt. If the belt is broken or if it isn't tight on the pulleys the washer won't spin or agitate properly.

Frigidaire affininty washer. the washer will not spin my clothes it says e20. so i put the washer on spin only and it will spin out mt clothes.

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
Water Level Control / Pressure Switch
his is the most common reason a washer will agitate but not spin. To check this on most , with no water you should have continuity on pins 7&15. With the tub full 7&16 should have continuity. This video walks you thru checking another type of switch.

Lid Switch
This can be the problem for the washer not spinning . Most whirlpool styles this will effect both agitate and spin but some models will still agitate but not spin. This is easy to check. You will need to remove the switch, this varies with model type but the testing will be the same. When the lid is closed the switch should have continuity when the lid is opend the switch should have no continuity. If it differs replace the Lid Switch.

Timer
To check the timer you will need to refer to the wiring diagram or disassemble to access the motor. Check the leads from the timer to the motor when turned to a wash cycle this should have 120 volts. If not replace the Timer, if it does the timer is not the problem.

Motor
To check the motor you will need to disassemble the washer to access the motor. First you can check the motor windings, to do this remove the plug and connect ohmeter to terminals. Refer to the tech sheet or service manual for the proper reading. Check motor for shorts by connecting ohmeter to terminals and motor housing should have no continuity. Connect voltmeter to motor wire connector and check for voltage. You should have 120 volts, if you do and the motor does not run replace the motor. If it does not have power the problem is elsewhere.

Belt
If your washer is a belt drive type make sure the belt is tight. Check for black soot from belt wear. Replace if it has excessive wear or broke.

Motor Coupler
This is a fairly common problem with direct drive machines but inexpensive and easy to replace. The Motor Coupler transfers power from the motor to thetransmission. The following video will walk you through the replacement of the Motor Coupler.

Transmission
The transmission does not usually fail. To check this on a direct drive remove the motor and then turn tub inside. If it spins freely with no noise theproblem is elsewhere. If it is noisy it needs replacing this is expensive and depending on the age of your machine you may not want to replace it. On a belt drive remove the belts and spin tub.

My washer is not spinning

Hello there and thank you for choosing fixya
Normally this problem is due to a worn out drive /basket clutch assembly that has failed this assy is normally should be replaced as a set and not only 1 part because if you only replace the drive but not the clutch then the clutch will soon fail ok so i suggest replacing them as a set
Here is some more info on this below

Quick tips....Slow or no spin....

  1. Lid open.

  2. Lid switch defective. ( Very Common problem )

  3. Lid switch disconnect plug open/burnt.

  4. Clothes between basket and outer tank.

  5. Lint filter caught between the wash basket and outer holding tank.

  6. Wiring harness.

  7. Bad motor capacitor ( How to check )

  8. Weak clutch.

  9. Timer switches. ( possible not allowing the pause required for the transmission to set up to spin )

  10. Motor.

  11. Cam driver on basket drive broken or basket drive weak.

  12. Spin tube.

  13. Notches in drive block worn out and not engaging basket drive shaft.

  14. Broken motor coupling. See Replacing Motor Coupler Page

  15. Read a bit on how the washer works as well.

If your washer will not spin...first thing is to consider if washer is RUNNING and not spinning or NOT RUNNING and not spinning. If the washer is NOT running ( or working intermittently ) check lid switch for continuity. Broken lid switch arm and the lid switch probe should be checked as well. Something NEW to check for when looking at that lid switch. Always a good idea to check for clothing between the tanks as well. Make sure nothing has gone through one of the inner basket holes and is now scrapping or jamming the tub from moving, such items may be a nail, pin, bra under wire.

Read a bit on how the washer works as well.

If washer IS running, remove power and remove cabinet. Use a piece of insulated wire to by-pass the lid switch wires, turn the timer to spin and pull out the knob, push the knob back in and pull it out again. Watch for the clutch drum to turn ( brown section in picture A ). If it is turning but the inner wash tub is not, then more often than not you have a worn clutch lining or a weak spin spring, also the brake may have seized up. If the clutch drum is not turning and washer is not spinning, often the failure is in the transmission gear box. ( see picture B ).

It does not spin. When you put clothes in it to wash and it is done when you open it up your clothes are just lieing on the bottom.

If your washer is not spinning you need to check this part.
  1. Test the lid switch
  2. Test the timer control
  3. Test the centrifugal switch
  4. Test the water level switch
  5. Inspect the motor coupler
  6. Inspect the drive belt(belt drive only)
  7. Inspect under the washer for soot (clutch)
  8. Test the motor
  9. Inspect the pulley
  10. Test the transmission

Why wont a washer spin out when it doesnt have a belt

Hi, The coupler replaces the belt and it could have broke. Other options are, the lid switch is bad or the spin basket drive assembly or the transmission. If the coupler is broke, the washer will not agitate either. If the lid switch is bad, the motor will not run either while in spin cycle. If the spin basket drive or transmission are bad, it might spin a little but not strong enough to get the water out of the clothes.
Does nay of these sound like they are what is going on with your washer?
Please let me know if this has helped you at all or if I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic
