Question about Samsung SHR-2082 8 Channel Stand Alone Dvr with Cdrw

Samsung shr-1040 playback is blocky

Playback is blocky is there a fix for this or am I out of luck. We use 2 of them and would really hate to have to trash them. We use the camera imputs and the real time is great but playback in single sreen is really blocky and is really hard to see anything. Or can there be a video card update. Thanks

lots of small blocks, seems like pixelation of some sort. I have been working on the problem a little but have not gotten anywhere. I am thinking of running the dvr in 1 screen mode and getting a multiplexer, but then I would have a problem with individual playback.

ok thank you for the help, but the playback is blocky in 1 screen mode. I use the cameras alot in night vision mode so that might be the problem.

Anyway the blocky picture I can deal with I guess, if you think of anything else let me know

We have taken all of that in consideration. How about there a way to turn off the compression? Then it would just be a glorified vcr but that would be great.

ok do you have suggestions on what type of unit would be best. A 4 channel unit or 8 would be great!

New new units could you point me in the right direction?

There is no video card, it's just a fancy quad.

Is the blocky picture on playback in single screen mode happening on all cameras, or just one of them?

    1. If it's just on 1 camera, then change up the camera inputs in the back (move cam 1 to port 2 and cam 2 to port 1, and so on). Does the blocky picture move with the camera? If it does, then check the connections of that camera (both at the camera and the input on the unit). Remember to check your connections one at a time so you can tell when you hit a bad connection.

    2. If it's on all of them when you play each camera back in single cam mode, Then we move on to another issue. Do you have both units running? Is it happening with both units?

This is trial and error time, let me know how it's going and I'll stay with you till we get it right.

Please describe "blocky". Are they large blocks, lots of small blocks, or are the blocks scattered?

Sorry, but there is no way to turn off the compression. That is the just the way a quad works. It compresses the 4 video signals to 1 channel. The only way to get around it is to buy a 4 channel unit. 1 channel per camera.

The content needs to be copied to the computer first, then played. The memory card cannot transfer the data to the computer fast enough, and any fast scenes will look blocky.

Makes a clicking noise when you use the telephone

Most likely there is a jam inside the lens assembly, and the gears are trying to engage. There are a few things you can try, and about 1/2 the time, they fix it. Here is the blog that details what to do and try, and it's worth trying.

Short of that working, it's usually not cost effective to have it repaired, unless you get a really good deal from a buddy who knows how. Get an estimate before considering service, since, as you've probably guessed, it's often better/cheaper to just get another new one. Good luck, and hope this helps.

Blocky image Digital Camera Hitachi VM-D965LA

sounds like some REALLY outdated compression... have you checked to make sure it's recording in the highest quality possible? Usually you can change settings like these in the camera's menu. If so then I'm a little stumped and wouldn't think any camera would continue functioning at all if it's encoding hardware were failing....

Imput problems with Samsung DLP TV

The parts required for this are available but difficult to find. The overall repair is not that difficult for anyone that has fixed these before. You'll spend more time getting to the jack than replacing it. Try calling Samsung parts and give them the model as well as the circuit designation of the jack. This designation will be written on the PC board. For less than $5 you should be able to get the jack. Ask a local service shop to install for you and you are off and running.

I Hate Photography - I So Don't Understand It

Okay, first to erase one at a time:
go to playback mode then find the picture you want to erase. Press the trash can button (it's the 3rd button down in the middle) only press it one time while the picture is showing it will bring up a screen on the left, use the button that at the top back of the camera that goes to the next picture and with your thumb look at the left part of the screen and go down and select the little icon that look is under the first one highlighted then just press the button just to the right of the Menu buttom (this is the enter button and it's not clearly marked at all). This will erase/delete the selected picture.

To format card and erase all pictures: do all the above but when you press the trash button press it again and hold it for a second and the screen will give you more icons at the left of the screen toggle down to the bottom icon and press the enter button and your format screen will come up. It's easy from there.

No sound on movie playback

This camera does record sounds. But, it doesnt look like it has a speaker in it to play them. So, yes unfortunately you wont be able to hear what you record unless you are using something else to playback what you have recorded.

Good Luck.

Multiple problems with camera operations.

I have been searching for a solution to the same exact problem for a long time. I just found this site recently and it has confirmed what I needed to know: 1. Buy a head cleaner to clean off the head (which records and such) 2. (If 1 Doesn't Work) Don't bother getting it fixed by a business (as opposed to a friend who would try fixing it for free) because they will charge $200 to $250 for it when it only costs around $270 from Sony now. So trash the camcorder and buy a new one. That's all I know of.
