SOURCE: Sony Vaio Touchpad Frozen
Sounds like the Touchpad has gone bad. Call sony and find out if it is covered under warrenty. If so you can have them replace it for you. If it is not, a touch pad is very cheap and very eay to install. Touchpads and mouse buttons are known for problems with that model.

it could be caused because of hardware failure or software failure, in case of hard ware failure it would be best to call sony tech support but in case of software issue , if you remember the day it was working fine,
do a system restore to the date it was working fine, which will reset your software configuration to the date you know it was working ok, so if it was caused by software issue it will be resolved, but any programs that you installed after the restore date will be lost
to do system restore
reboot your system when you see the sony logo start tapping the F8 key and you will come to a menu here select safe mode and boot and then
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts select the bold date your system was working fine and continue as it guides,
If you think the information i gave you was helpfull please do rate me

SOURCE: Sony Vaio VGN-NR140E touchpad is
You can try the drivers at: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGN-NR140E
The other thing to try is to see if you have disabled the touchpad by accident. Some touchpads have a small button near them which turns them off, to avoid accidental use, if you have plugged in an external mouse.
You could also see if the touchpad is disabled by right clicking on "Computer" and selecting "Manage" and double clicking on "Device Manager". See if anything is disabled in this list.
