SOURCE: what is power/standby
Most experts agree that standby power is electricity used by appliances and equipment while they are switched off or not performing their primary function. That power is consumed by power supplies (the black cubes—sometimes called "vampires"—converting AC into DC), the circuits and sensors needed to receive a remote signal, soft keypads and displays including miscellaneous LED status lights. Standby power use is also caused by circuits that continue to be energized even when the device is "off".
That definition is attractive to a lay person but inadequate for technical purposes. An international technical standards committee is developing a definition and test procedure.

This 100 times flash or irregular sequence of flash denotes a common internal error. Most of the times, this is indicative of faulty power board. Repair is prudent. If you have electronics repair experience, could read schematics and would be able to keep all precautions, i would be glad to provide you a link to purchase service manual and could provide you few pointers unless tech is recommended in these problems.
Let me know,if needed further assistance,
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Red is an indication signal for power connectivity. Recent devices have two power functionalities. Using the remote control would turn off the display of images to power saver mode. A red power light imiting diode display is indication that requiring display of images is achievable by pressing on the display mode button once more. NOTES; Powering on the device may be achieved with the same function buttons as shutting down the entire Device to least communicate with the power supply circuity from outlet sources. The device is in power off mode ready for repower on with the remote control. Requesting the TV to shut down completely would require to press on the TV button firmly until power cuicuit are disbabled completely. Refer to the TV user guide to ascertain fucntionaility modes usual during operations. Goodluck

If your Sony Wega will not turn on, the front green light blinks, you hear a faint whirring sound and the green light turns red and flashes, it probably means the lamp inside the set is no longer working. If you noticed the screen beginning to dim in the preceding days or weeks, this most likely is the cause.
If the green light flashes and the picture comes on momentarily but then goes off, and the green button flashes until the set restarts, then the seal around the lamp mount is loose and needs to be refitted.
If the picture on your Grand Wega cuts in and out and the green standby light flashes, both of the set's STKs need to be replaced. STKs are small chips on your television's circuit boards and are identifiable by their labels. The specific STKs used in your Grand Wega TV will be identifiable by the numbered labels on top of the STKs.
When you plug in your Sony Wega and hear a loud popping sound, it's probably caused by a defect in the high-voltage circuit. Let the professionals take care of this one.
If, after turning on your Sony Wega, you can hear your set but the screen is black, you most likely need to replace your projection lamp.
