Find the silver braided wire that surrounds the picture tube. Very bright silver, can't miss it. Attach the braid to a wire that has an alligator clip on one end. On the other end of this wire you should have a round clip that will attach to a flat screwdriver. Now be sure your TV is unplugged. With one hand behind your back, handle the screwdriver with the other hand. Slip the screwdriver under the suction cup and listen to a snap. You have just discharged the picture tube. When you reattach the suction cup be sure to touch the same hole in the picture tube as the tube will recharge on its own somewhat. Always becareful when you handle the mainboard. The capacitors continue to hold a charge as well. Set the board aside for a few days or a week before handling. You cannot discharge a capacitor by grounding the prongs of the cap...as you may damage other parts on the board.
