Speaker hookup Hi I recently purchaged a Sony GT420IP car stereo. There are two RCA speaker outputs, and a 10 pin socket on the rear the unit. which also have speaker connections. I like to install this unit in the back of my RV, with a simple two speaker setup. (no amplifiers). Which audio outputs do I use???? Thanks! Jack.

Use the speaker wire outputs on the wiring harness on the back of the radio. The RCA outputs are for using an external amplifier, so you do not want to use them. The speaker wires should be color coded. The front speakers are normally grey and grey with a black stripe for one side, and then white and white with a black stripe for the other side (left and right sides)

The rear speakers are violet and violet with a black stripe and the other rear is green and green with a black stripe. All the solid colors are the positive speaker output and the wires with the black stripe are the negative speaker outputs.

These speaker outputs are on the same harness as the power connections to power up the radio. I believe that it has more than 10 wires on it. I am not sure what socket you speak of that is 10 pin and has speaker outputs. The speaker outputs alone are 8 wires, so the harness will have more than 10 wires. It also has the yellow wire for constant 12 volts to keep memory, the red wire to connect to 12 volts when the vehicle is on, and the black wire for the ground. Then it should also have a blue wire for use with an external amplifier to turn it on or to use for a power antenna to turn it on. You may also find several other wires on it like the orange for illumination and brown for muting the radio when a phone is in use. Those last few wires do not need to be used unless you want them for a specific purpose.

I have a Sony Amplifier [model TA-AX380] and other components of CD player [model DCP-C40], AM/FM Tuner [model ST-JX380], FM Stereo/FM-AM Receiver [model STR-AV570X], and Stereo Cassette Deck [model...

http://www.servicemanuals.net/ServiceManual/SONY/TAAX380/148547/detail.aspx
http://www.hifiengine.com/manuals/sony/str-av570x.shtml
Hi above are links for manuals, these may help..
When one wires up anything it is all usually color to color output to input... usually RED & WHITE stereo audio.
Now we would start with our Tuner this the CD player, & Cassette deck, will wire into the Amp's INPUTs , red - red & white - white, these go into the Stereo INPUTs on the AMP... 1, 2 & 3 and be selected via the input selector on the AMP.
Now after all these in's and out's are wired we need to wire our speakers, this too is simple, locate the outputs on the Amp, and wire accordingly, Plus to Plus and Negative to Negative... each speaker has two wires a Plus, + & a Negative -
All will/should be clearly marked and it will be easy to do. You will need patch leads, one set each for each unit, these will be a pair of cables, usually Red & White with RCA jacks on each end, as related these go color to color from the RCA OUTPUTs Sockets, of the signal suppliers, ie: Tuner, FM stereo & Cassette deck... these ALL will wire into the Main Amplifiers INPUTS, usually at rear of unit, and clearly marked, after this is all done, then as related again now connect the Speakers, again the OUTPUT on the Amp will be clearly marked, as output and + & -, + & - (two sets), one for each channel.
Now each INPUT is selected ON the AMP, and it's output will then be directed to the speakers attached to the Amp..... Just wire and test one at a time, and i am sure you will prevail.
Hope this helps.

I have a stock stereo and two subs with an amp in the trunk. Also two alpine speakers in the rear. Whenever I turn my balance to the left my subs don't play. What's wrong?

Hello.... I am sorry to hear you are having problems. The reason for this is that since you have a stock stereo, the shop (or person) whom installed the amp and subs used a line out converter. What this part does is allows the connection of RCA cables to the factory head unit. Almost all bass signals are always in stereo, so since you were only hooking an amplifier for just subs, you can actually just connect to just one of the rear speakers instead of connecting to the right and left. Just makes the install a little quicker. There is nothing wrong with this as I usually do the same thing in our shop. However, if you are going to be using the balance control, then you will need to go back to the shop and have them hook the converter up in stereo (to both rear speakers). Hope this helps!

Need help never installed a dvd stereo what are the rca like cords for and are they needed. and do i need anything other then what came with the stereo to install?

the RCA outputs on your source unit are for the following; speaker output (to amplifier) source in, source out (such as rear screens) aux in.
if you are only installing the source unit (dvd stereo) and not running any rear screens, reverse cameras or amplifiers then NO you do not need to worry about them.
as above if you are only installing the unit then every thing that came with the unit should suffice. UNLESS your vehicle needs specific radio facia kits, such as a 2001 ford explorer.
cheers

I have a sony cdx-gt420ip stereo but I dont know what wires to hook where to get it to turn on. theres an orange, yellow, red, and black and two blue. where do the orange and yellow go?

Sony head units use either a 9 pin connector, link below.
http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C285614
Or a 16 pin connector, listed below.
http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C217600
From your color description, I would believe you have the 16 pin connector. This info should be what you need to accomplish the task.

Connecting a car stereo to an amplifier

you have to connect your 4 speakers to 4 speakers output direct to your car stereo no need of amplifier to 4 speaker but speakers should be small not like a woofer, and you have to connect your sub woofer by using amplifier don't connect direct. connect the output of your car stereo (using 2 RCA) to the 2 RCA inputs of amplifier. If u connect your 4 speakers to your amplifier then your car stereo does not support Left Right channel.
You can also connect your laptop or iPod direct to your amplifier.
Good Luck

Alpine 3523 no instructions or wiring

I know this is a little late but I have one and the hookup is very easy, On the right side of the amp there is a six pin plug. Above it it says BATT REMOTE GND. The two pins below BATT are the battery (V+). The pin below REMOTE is the (V+) switched turn on. The two pins below GND are the ground. The rest is simple. Two RCA inputs. The switch to select MONO(R), STEREO, or MONO(L) works as explained. If you want stereo, put the switch in the middle and supply two inputs and two speakers. The MONO(R) and MONO(L) are to select a single input that will supply a single (bridged) output. Connect two speakers and they will supply the same source or connect one speaker to the outer speaker terminals for higher power output. The variable or fixed switch just bypasses the GAIN CONTROL knobs(used for Alpine's 8 pin DIN plug on unit, for older EQ's and head units.
