Use the speaker wire outputs on the wiring harness on the back of the radio. The RCA outputs are for using an external amplifier, so you do not want to use them. The speaker wires should be color coded. The front speakers are normally grey and grey with a black stripe for one side, and then white and white with a black stripe for the other side (left and right sides)

The rear speakers are violet and violet with a black stripe and the other rear is green and green with a black stripe. All the solid colors are the positive speaker output and the wires with the black stripe are the negative speaker outputs.

These speaker outputs are on the same harness as the power connections to power up the radio. I believe that it has more than 10 wires on it. I am not sure what socket you speak of that is 10 pin and has speaker outputs. The speaker outputs alone are 8 wires, so the harness will have more than 10 wires. It also has the yellow wire for constant 12 volts to keep memory, the red wire to connect to 12 volts when the vehicle is on, and the black wire for the ground. Then it should also have a blue wire for use with an external amplifier to turn it on or to use for a power antenna to turn it on. You may also find several other wires on it like the orange for illumination and brown for muting the radio when a phone is in use. Those last few wires do not need to be used unless you want them for a specific purpose.

I have a sony cdx-gt420ip stereo but I dont know what wires to hook where to get it to turn on. theres an orange, yellow, red, and black and two blue. where do the orange and yellow go?

Sony head units use either a 9 pin connector, link below.
http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C285614
Or a 16 pin connector, listed below.

From your color description, I would believe you have the 16 pin connector. This info should be what you need to accomplish the task.

How to hook up a head unit to an amplifier, when the head unit has no RCA plug ins? It was done before in my old car now i cant remember how.

Here is a link to owners manual for Sony CDX-GT300.
http://www.docs.sony.com/release/CDXGT300.pdf
Here is a link to installation instructions. It looks to me that there are front and rear line out RCA connectors on the back side of your head unit. (Unless, this is not the model of your head unit)
http://www.docs.sony.com/release/CDXGT300_Installation_Guide.pdf
There are devices that are capable of converting speaker level output to line level (RCA) output. I know Scoch is one brand, and here is a link to others.

Hope this helps.

Right rear speaker not working

Start by connecting it to one of the other outputs off the deck, say the left rear. If it still doesn't work, remove the speaker and connect it directly to the head unit. If it works, then it's the speaker wire, if it doesn't, it's the speaker.
If there are amplifiers installed, switch RCA cables left for right etc. and see if the problem moves with the cable switch, try the same with the speaker connections at the amp. This will narrow down whether it's the amp or the RCA cable etc.
Car audio problems can be handled by a process of elimination! Eliminate what it's not and you're pointed directly to what it is.

Sounds like a couple speakerwires could be crossed/shortcurciting somewhere...;)

Sony cdex-m630 connections with an amp

You can use either set of RCA outputs for the amplifier that you want to. Only difference in either of them is front, rear and sub outputs. If you are only powering a sub amp, then use the sub outputs, otherwise, the other two will work fine. You can still use the outputs from the radio itself to power four other speakers while using the RCA outputs.

Connecting To Auto Harness

Hi,

Most Sony head units follow the ISO standards in its wiring and connector pinouts.

A Sony CDX-S2000 would be using the below listed wiring:
Yellow - +12V Constant Power (such as the + terminal of your battery)
Red - +12V Switched Power (such as the ACC of the IGN switch)
Blue - Power Antenna
Blue/White - External Power Amp Turn-on trigger
White - Left Front Positive Speaker Wire (LF+)
White/Black - (LF-)
Gray - Right Front Positive Speaker Wire (RF+)
Gray/Black - (RF-)
Green - Right Rear Positive Speaker Wire (RR+)
Green/Black - (RR-)
Purple - Left Rear Positive Speaker Wire (LR+)
Purple/Black - (LR-)

In some models, Sony would have several versions of the connectors depending on the region the unit was intended for use, 10. 16 and 18 pins. The connector (loom) would have to match what your version has. They are readily available from most auto stereo stores and on line. You can try here or here .

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Unable to connect to amplifier

Hi, Your post "Is there any way I can connect it to an amplifier?" yes, but that would require that you open your unit and attach a pair of shielded wire to the inputs of the built-in amplifier. Left, right and 2 X ground. The other end of the shielded wire can be terminated with a pair of RCA females. The "blue" slot can be replaced by a manually operated remote on/off switch. This however will void your warranty, probably it might be to your advantage to return the unit for a replacement model that has line outs. Good luck and kind regards. Post back should you need further information.

Can I plug an mp3 player into the unit ???

Hi, A wild guess, the 2 X RCA are lineout intended for external amplifier hence no AUX selection in your front panel buttons, but of course I might be off. I have similar problem with a Pioneer model and an MSI MP3 player. My solution was to install a stereo FM RF Modulator similar to Delphi SA10003 or an AudioVox Rf Modulator FMM100a. The MP3's output was fed to the modulator which turns it into an FM broadcast. The car stereo picks it up as an FM signal. Hope this gives you some idea. Good luck and kind regards.
