SOURCE: 40 inch lcd blue line vertical
The display screen is made of a matrix of elements connected to cables
along the side and top. On your unit, some of these many, tiny
connections are making contact intermittantly thus losing the elements
in that area. These contacts are held in place with just pressure and
if that is disturbed, you lose that line of elements. Try squeezing the
cabinet of the TV on the outside at the top in the area of the loss and
see if that makes a difference. May have to go inside and see if the
contact assembly is disturbed or warped or something.
Hope ya fix it!

You have a burn in problem from watching widescreen movies. If you have access to a signal generator or tv setup disc run a perfectly white screen on the plasma for about 30 min. This should help even out the pixels on the display.

Contact Samsung and demand a replacement television. With my situation, they had me take it to a repair shop and get an estimate. I was originally going to get nothing, then after several correspondence, only the parts for free since it was out of warranty (not too far out of warranty) and pay for labor. They decided it would be too expensive and difficult to find the part. They ended up letting me pay 350 for the same tv but 2 years newer. It is definitely worth the price since the labor alone would cost that.
Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Black Vertical Lines in screen
All I can tell you is that you maybe have left your T.V. on a channel that didn't move for so long, or maybe someone else did and it burnt the screen. Plasma's run off of plasma gas to create the great picture and they collect on the screen and stick. What you need to do is go to your menu and look for "screen burn protection" and put it on white and let it sit for 20 minutes. All of one color such as white doesn't harm your T.V. The only way anything burns is like a bright white line in front of a black background.
