Question about Gateway FPD2185W 21 in. LCD Television
I just got this gateway lp2407 about three days ago. worked fine, then i noticed that i couldn't select the right resolution (1900 x 1200) so i ran the driver free program, and just after it installed or tried to install the first outdated driver, my screen went black with horizontal lines across the top portion of the screen. I'm running 2003 xp so i figured i needed to update drivers to fix the resolution problem. Now it will boot up but after a minute or two after windesktop appears, it will go black with the lines across. the pattern will change if you move the monitor around(like tipping it forward). can you please tell me where to start looking. Physical or configuration?
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Sounds like an inverter problem. If the power supply is internal replace the capacitors coming out of the voltage regulators. These are usually 1000mf and/or 470mf. If that doesn't do the trick look up the numbers on the 8-pin chips that drive the secondary transformers on the inverter to see if they are getting the right voltages.

Take your Agp card with you to the shop. You do not need to go through Gateway, but there are serveal formats of AGP regarding the voltages.
By the sounds of it you have the newer version of AGP so finding a replacement card won't be a problem. The only real issue you have is AGP cards cost a lot more then their PCI-e conterparts.
Going from a GeForce 4, look for something like an FX5700 or even a 6200. Don't let the sales guys get in your ear either. Putting any higher video card then these in your current system and your wasting your money.
