Question about Dell OptiPlex 760 MT Desktop Computer
I just got this computer. I was told that it was in perfect condition with just a few cosmetic wears and tears. That was not the case. The warranty is expired and I can't afford to renew it. I recieved the computer and booted it up. Not 2 hours into using it, it crashed. Just completely shut down. And would not reboot. I left it alone for a half hour and came back to see if it was working. It turned on but said this at the boot screen. "Previous attempts at booting this system have failed at checkpoint [WRIT]." Any ideas? Please help.
This computer has known issues with the USB hubs which will throw this code. If you used a USB hub for a monitor or such it may have crashed the driver. Have you tried booting without any USB devices connected? If not please try.

Try running the Check Disk Utility.
To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.
If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.
In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.
In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

if not the graphic chip are bad if you hear the fans to fast. you can try heat it using a heat gun .
you need to cover all using a aluminium sheet and discover the graphic chip. and heat it for 30 seconds. heat it making circular movement.
you can replace the mother board your self , and bought a used board and u will save a lot of money.
