Desktop or Laptop computer ??

If your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it
Click start control panel administrative tools computer management device manager scroll to sound video and game controllers you might see a yellow question exclamation mark? ! or a red X Right click to reinstall drivers. Click start control panel sounds and audio volume advanced speakers make sure you have selected the (appropriate speakers) also audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have selected the correct speaker settings.
Click start control panel sounds and audio devices select advanced there might be a tick in the mute box untick it
If his does not fix the problem Click start control panel sounds and audio devices you can adjust the volume there also select speaker.

volume you can change your settings there you can also tick in the box place icon in taskbar for any further volume control settings you will need to right click on the speaker volume icon system select adjust volume. Click start control panel sounds and audio volume advanced speakers select the appropriate speakers from the drop down list or navigate to the device manager scroll to system devices + to expand system speaker right click properties then select use this device (enable). The speaker plug/outlets is usually at the back of the computer or if its a laptop on the side.
You will have to open up the computer to check the lead attached to the rear of the input plug make

sure the connection is good with no dust as dust causes static electricity. Clean your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is

no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the sound card and the CPU central processing unit.

Dust causes static to build up in a computer

There are 2 volume controls on the audio output in windows 7. one is the system volume the other is the device volume. make sure that they are both at full and then control the sound volume on your speakers.

I've tried everything, can't get sounds for in coming texts

go to your settings. click on sound. here you should find a notification option and set which ringtone you would like. make sure that you go back to your sound settings or caller settings to make sure the volume is actually turned on for incoming text messages. the reason you might not be getting them is because you have it default in your phone to keep them silent. just browse your setting options for sound or calls where you will find a "volume" option. select that and slide your notification sound over to whatever level you like! hope you found this helpful!

How to activate volume

Click Start/Control Panel and look for Audio or Sound. Open and adjust the volume controls. Make sure the volume is not on mute.

You can also click on the megaphone at the bottom right near the time to adjust the sound and audio volume.

Try using the VLC Player. It comes with drivers and codec. I've seen it solve many sound issues.

Try using VLC as your player. Go to www.google.com and in the search box type "download vlc" (without the quotes). Look for the Video Lan download from site www.videolan.org/vlc Download and install it. It downloads and installs in 3 minutes or so. It's a very fast player, smooth and it can play just about any type of dvd formats and media. It's totally FREE.

The mike come on and then goes off

What is the 'system volume'? What system are you using to amplify the mic?Sounds like some kind of automatic volume control that cuts off when the signal is too loud. But I'd need to know what set up you're using.

Volume Stopping Instantly

A few things to consider: if mute on the set is not on what about the box if you are using one?

Speakers could be switched off in the set.
There could be a internal / external speaker switch(not common but possible)
Sound on the set could be muted or turned real low or off.

if the image you see on the screen is there--either it is from the set or a box if one is used.

only a few things other than the sound circuit being bad will cause this--very few sets with actual no sound problems are around.

Hi, my laptop sound has gone dead in a sudden. When I open the volume mixer, I can still see the green bars jumping up and down on digital output device (SPDIF) but nothing at all for windows media player...

Hello patrick886,
If your volume mixer is still showing the noise bars moving, that's great. It means the computer knows sound is coming from somewhere, the fact that you can't hear it, indicates there's a problem with where to send that sound (aka your speakers). Now with the no sound coming out, I'm guessing you are talking about the internal speakers and not external ones.
Have you recently installed any kind of music editing software? Mp3 player such as Winamp, iTunes or other music related programs? I'd start by checking the device manager to see if the speakers are at least being detected.
I've put together a nice little picture for you. Hope it helps!!

My headset was working fine but all of a sudden the volume will not stay at the level I turn it up to. It keeps rolling back down to barely any sound coming through. I try to use the button on headset but...

Good morning, afternoon, evening or night; whatever time of day you are viewing this solution post. Thank you for choosing FixYa to solve your problem. Your Logitech ClearChat Pro USB Headset's volume will not stay at the level you turn it up to, and as a result it keeps rolling back down to a lower sound quality. Your volume control button doesn't solve the problem neither. Well, when a problem occurs, you should first troubleshoot where it's coming from. We will use a method called "Process of elimination". Your headset's volume has two controls: one control is on the headset itself, and the other control is located in the sound settings of the device you have your headset plugged into. With this thought in mind, lets go up to the problem explanation above. You said that the volume control attached to the headset didn't make a difference, this means the you can eliminate the hypothesis that it's the volume control causing this. The problem is coming from the earphone portion of the headset. Either a mute setting has been activated, volume is turned down real low or your headset is not the default device to receive sound input. The first part of the investigation is done; now, to get further into the investigation, you will need to connect your headset to your computer. This is where troubleshooting and solving the problem meet. Step-by-Step, I am going to explain to you how to get audio presentations into your headset. This device works with two Windows Operating Systems (Vista and XP) and one Mac Operating System (OS X). If your computer's operating system is Windows, open your Control Panel. Under the Hardware & Sound link, click Manage Audio Devices (for Vista users), and the Sound & Audio Devices link (for XP users). If your coumputer's operating system is Mac OS X, open your System Preferences and click the Sound link. In Windows Vista, click the name of your device, then click Set Default. Click the Properties button and increase the volume slider or unmute the volume if needed. If applicable, click the Apply button, then click OK. If the Apply button is void, just click OK. Click the Recording tab and perform the same procedures as you did before, only difference is that this will make your headset microphone the default recording device. In Windows XP, click the Audio tab and set the headset as the Sound Playback and Recording device. Increase the volume or unmute it if needed. When finished, click the Voice tab and perform the same procedures as you did before. In Mac OS X, click the Input tab and select the headset as the input device. If you still can barely hear anything, increase the volume slider. When finished, click the Output tab and repeat the same steps as before; only thing, you will be making this the sound output device, meaning the sound of your voice will be outputed from the microphone. Increase the volume slider if needed. You should be able to receive sound in and out of your headphones now. If we succeded, through this experience we have: troubleshooted where the problem was coming from, found a way to solve it and fixed the problem! Thank you for choosing FixYa as your one-stop solution spot for problems, questions, concerns and requests. Visit our website again the next time you need assistance with something. Thank you and have a good morning, afternoon, evening or night; whatever time of day you are viewing this solution post.
