SOURCE: Problem with battery on Acer Travelmate 4060

There are probably some corrupt files on the harddrive or there is damage on the hard drive. I would suggest to try using the windows setup cd or sony recovery cd to restore the system back to normal, if the problem is not solved by that then you most likely have a hardware problem which is most likely in the harddrive, might have to replace it, they don't cost much.

if you press f8 in start up to get the advanced startup menu, select safe mode.

start in safe mode and login

then

press start -> now run -> type in Cmd -> Type in the shell window -> chkdsk /F /X /R C:
if asked select Y to perform the operation on next start up.

see if the problem is solved.

SOURCE: black screen on compaq presario v5000

the very first thing that u can try is that try it with the different ac adaptor and the battery and try it with the differnt ac aaaadaptor and still it doesnt then wahat u said is that u can hear the sound of the fan and the disk is trying to read but u cannnot see anything on the screen adn all u need to clearify is that if the computer is actually running or not and if it is working then what u can do is that connect the external monitor and then try and turn on the laptop and if u get a good display in te external monitor then definately replace the lcd screen and also what u can try is that try and reboot the computer in the safe mode and if turns on and u can see the display in the screen then do the system restore and it will be fine.......and as u said that u get a choppy sound from the fan then what u can do is that try and clean the fan from the back or by opening it......anbd it will not get any sound from the fan......good luck....

SOURCE: Computer won't boot Windows Vista. Screen goes black with cursor arrow.

In this case you have to do the PC restore . you can do that in dell machines by shutting down the machine and when it is coming back on just HOLD DOWN THE CTRL ket and the START HITTING f11 key in this case you will lose the data which you have the on the c drive but this issue will get resolved .

Else you can try to restart in the safe mode with networking and then go to the system restore and then select the bold dates in which you have idea you system was working fine . selct the date and then do the system restore . In this case you will not lose the data but you will lose the updates which you have done after that date .

in both the cases system will work .

if the fan is dead and the old HDD is pure silent the power pack is dead. (battery out)
no OS stated, then post questions, why> , why make it impossible to help>/ let me guess the virus magnet XP? or worse older?
some are vista and w7 fitted... must I GUESS THIS?

    dead laptop 101, (generic)

runs ok battery out, BINGO !
BIOS works? that is first not windows EVER, BIOS works.
    does it?
you do know BIOS works with CD drive and HDD drive out right>?
if not the power pack is dead, or the mobo regs are dead.
you can pull ram sticks and run them 1 by 1 to see if one is toasted.
there are many modules on all LT MOBO, that can short out.
a tech pulls them. to learn that.. fact. bingo?

what a tech does is strip it down to near nothing here
to get BIOS alive again. if its goes live the fan spins, see?
if BIOS is dead, all PCs made are dead. hopeless.
BIOS does the boot and hand off to HDD< see?
focus like a laser on BIOS....! and win.

you typed the model wrong, so is now 2 times harder to help you.

its just a filler page, the service guide is NOW MISSING
so i cant spoon feed you the BIOS hot key
but the black screen page here tell it.

    F1, F2, F10 and ESC.
If you boot a working PC (no hdd, no cd drive needed)
you will get a text message. from BIOS
    telling the above, secret.

every way on earth to get a black screen or silent pc or dead bios is there. (seems so)

So my laptop froze yesterday and I turned it off to restart it. When I restarted it it everything was normal but after the starting windows goes away it usually goes to the login page well now all it does...

Try starting it in safe mode.
When the computer is starting just after the beep or when the bios info goes away press f8 repeatedly and you will get an option to open in regular or safe mode.
Alternativly you can also hold down teh ctrl key and it should do the same.
Did you install or update and drivers recently?

Does dskchck & freezes if cancelled goes black & only cursor show

That's a common problem with Vista...you'll need to restart your computer. Start back up in safe mode...by pressing F8 at the boot screen. then restart your computer normally through the start menu. After this I would find a good copy of Windows XP Professional and back up my data, and install XP over vista.

    Black screen please help

the beeps are called BIOS BEEP codes. and is telling you what is wrong.
does run with no battery removed
do the BIOS screens work they MUST at all time. power on ,hotkeyed.
    is the fan running
    its old right,
like an old car that will not start do you buy a new car?
or buy a new battery? hummmmmmmm
ever heard of a tech>/? those folks that diagnosis things?

tried taking battery out, but failed to say it would not run only on the power pack. take it out and leave it out for now... be wise.

so the HP logo works every-time you never said that yes./no.??
thAT hp LOGO IS A BIOS LOGO FROM HP.
if yes the BIOS is ok. see? means the brain works the Ram is not dead and if you had pressed the BIOS hot key F1,F1, Esc, F10
what ever it is , it tells you what at boot in text. if you look there.
if it stalls with good bios that means.
    bad HDD or bad OS.
SOME NEWER PC HAVE f10 OR F11 RESTORE KEY
IF YOU Press that, at power on ,it goes to restore mode.
    (means reload windows)

    oops HP retired this PC
    https://support.hp.com/us-en/retired-products

that means in English clear, its NOT SUPPORTED NOW.
no books no software no updates no NUTTN
    No anything, !

now you know why mom dump it.?
    LOL !!!!

    its a dead fish.
or FORD, found on road dead. LT.

why not report the beep codes
    clear and accurately,??????????????????????

run the LT with no battery and level it like that till cured.

then, replace the COIN cell, no laptop this old has good 3vdc coin cell, impossible I bet.
if the cell dies, as all do in 5 -10 years.
the PC beeps with CMOS clock, NVRAM errors.
the battery size of a coin, runs the Real time clock and the
CMOS memory bank for the BIOS settings.
if the coin goes dead BIOS GOES NUTS ANT TIME/DATE goes NUTS.
if the beep codes say the HDD dont boot that usually means HDD is dead.
the trouble with beep codes are that there are many BIOS used
and many codes used. some are impossible to find.
beeps are now gone we flash LED codes now.

this is DT coin, LT is warped in plastic and 2 wires. see the COIN?
    http://www.pcdied.com/coin-dt.JPG

    beep?
    1 long , 1 short, ? is COIN dead.

    http://www.bioscentral.com/beepcodes/compaqbeep.htm

note the black hole OF BIOS code HELL here, its a bad place to be.
    for sure.
one other test is go to BIOS page.
see that time/date, year, settings. if way off the COIN is dead.
learn to that a 1/2 dead coin can work now, then file and 1 hour later work, that is how batteries fail. they go MARGINAL sometimes.

    Hello,
The CMOS battery supplies energy to the Real Time Clock when the computer is not connected to the electrical socket, and does not have the battery inserted. It should not prevent the computer from starting up. You will however be asked to reset the time and date of the computer.
    Hope it helps.

Does it feel like it's running hot? If so, check that the cooling vents are clean and that the fan is running. A second thought is that you may have some mal-ware that you've picked up off of the internet. I fought a similar problem on an IBM T41 for several weeks. Look up and download a copy of Ad-Aware SE (it's free!) I wouldn't have a computer without it installed. Picks up all kinds of crap that Norton never even sees. Same to be said about AVG, and that's free, too.
If this tips don't solve your issue, get back to me and we'll pick up from here.
