Alarm light & E 2 flashing with Canon Pixma MP 160

I replaced the black ink cartridge for the first time, and have received this alarm message, even after removing software and reinstalling, and unplugging the unit and then plugging it back in. It is unusable and it is very frustrating. Ink cartridge is indentical, and it had never been changed before.

It flashes 'E' and '2' separately, and the alarm light keeps going on and off. That is it as far as the alarms. I did check the correct installation of the cartridge, even took the cartridge out, but there is no way to reset this alarm business. I have noticed other people have had this issue as well. Unfortunately I cannot afford to get it serviced, and considering this was such a simple procedure, I am surprised at how screwed up my printer/ scanner is as a result!!

    Thanks for trying to help!

Override empty ink tank on Canon PIXMA MX860

The title of this topic is for the MX860. It has no "RESUME" button, so the advice submitted by cene765 does not work. But there is a solution.

The MX860 has two black ink cartridges--one small (like the colored ones) and one large. So, you will run out of colored ink way before you run out of black. I found that by selecting the "Gray scale" printing option, I could still print with color cartridges being very low. Even when the printer told me that the color cartridges were empty, I could still print by clicking the "OK" button. However, this does not last. Eventually, the printer will flag the color cartridges with an alarm. When that happens, the printer stops working, freezing at the alarm until you replace the cartridge.

However, you can still print. What you need to do is press and hold the STOP button for a few moments. The alarm will be released and then you let go of the button. Printing can resume. This happened to me where the alarm was triggered by the cyan cartridge, before I could even try to print. When I used the STOP button bypass, printing started but was then flagged by the magenta cartridge. I thought for sure that pressing STOP while in the middle of starting the print cycle would abort it, but thankfully it did not--the alarm was cleared and printing resumed.

Alram light

Did you replace the Black ink cartridge or the Color cartridge, or did you replace both?

Facing the front of the Canon Pixma MX310, did you install the Black ink cartridge to the left side, and the Color cartridge to the right side?

Do Not reverse how the ink cartridges go. Do Not install a Black ink cartridge, in the Color cartridge holder.

If the Alarm light came on, check to see if you have an error message in the LCD. (Not trying to insult your intelligence. The LCD is the little rectangular Liquid Crystal Display on your Pixma MX310 Operation Panel, to the left of the numeric buttons)

Do you have the Pixma MX310 On-screen manual?
Start>Hover on All Programs>Canon>Pixma MX310>On-screen manual

Click on the Troubleshooting heading.
If you have an error message code, click on the heading ->
An Error Message is Displayed on the LCD.

Also suggest you click on the heading -> Problems Sending Faxes.

See if the information provided has a solution to your problem.

Canon mp 150 error 5

Our pixma MP150 printer has a flashing E and flashing 5, also flashing on alarm, black ink and color ink. We have replaced the ink cartridges but nothing happens. They were empty. The printer doesnt recognize that the cartridges are there. We have tried unplugging the cords and taking the cartridges out and putting them in again. Also, it wont scan a thing either. ITs likes its frozen in the error. What can we do to fix this?
