I had the same issue and it probably is the worm gear. This youtube video is a great step by step guide to fix it.

The following link is to the parts diagram. If your model is different you will just need to search for its diagram.

it is a DIY project, a little messy, but worth it. The worm gear + SSH was only $5.50. A few hours of time and a fully functioning mixer again.

Kitchen aid model kb25gixob will not turn on.any suggestions?

Put an ohmmeter across the two pins on the plug, on the mixer,,not the earth one.and turn the switch on.you should get a reading, plus it will change as you turn the switch to different settings.if no reading, suspect broken wire in plug,or mixer windings burnt out.try in a different socket

Why can't my kitchen aid mixer turn n

Sounds like the worm gear was stripped. This gear is designed to fail when the load on the motor is too great. This protects the motor from overheating and burning out. By the way, the mixer should not be used above the number 2 speed when using the dough hook.

The worm gear is not all that hard to replace although you will have to contend with a lot of grease. See the Service Manual:

Kitchen aid mixer has a scream when using dough hook.

A little pin or setscrew or key has failed. Maybe a gear has slipped out of place. Anyway, the thing needs to come apart to find out what happened. When taking things apart, line up each item off in a tidy row, put screws in little containers near the part they fit.
Repairclinic.com may have instructions, and probably have the parts.

Motor head on Kitchen Aid KSM150PSWW is loose when in operation.

Are you engaging the head lock during operation? if not that is why it is loose. If you are it is not uncommon for the head to move around a little under heavy loads, when I make bread the head is always trying to come up so I have to use the head lock switch whenever I use the mixer on bread. It is the only time I lock it down.

Hello. I have a Kitchen Aid mixer made by Hobart between 1975 and 1978. It is a stand mixer with a 5-quart bowl that lifts and locks into place. While it was kneading a bread dough, the motor...

Hello Suzann,

I understand that you are having a problem with your Kitchen Aid 5 Quart mixer. It sounds like you have stripped the gears or the worm gear out. Although, it may not be an expensive parts repair it is not an easy task to complete if you are not mechanical enclined. There are many different little gears in these units.

My suggestion would be to take it a local appliance repair shop that works on mixers. If you can tell me the city that you live in I would be more than happy to give you the location of one or two repair shops. As the unit is so old you want to invest in a new unit and keep that one as a reminder of how long Kitchen Aid has been around.

Thank you for choosing FIxYa.com

Is 300 w mixer powerful enough to mix bread dough?

Your mixer is easily able to handle the kneading of bread dough. Please advise:

9 cups of all purpose white flour, maximum.

6 cups of specialty flour, maximum. This is any flour besides all purpose white.

Bread doughs are only to be needed on speed 2, and never for longer than 7 minutes.

This is all stated in the Use and Care guide for the mixer itself. If these guidelines are not followed, it may lead to a product failure.
