Question about GE PSF26NGN Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

My GE PSF26NGN has stopped cooling. Compreesor not running, but inner and outer fans running when plugged in. Does compressor have a thermal overload reset ? Where can I find a wiring/electrical component schematic. There was no ice build up on coils or in cabinet. Could it be something on the board ?

Unplugged unit for a few hours.Used compressed air to clean dust from coils in the back. Compressor started running when plugged in again and now 24 hours later is operating properly.I assume overload reset or board did, either way it works. I believe it shut down due to dirty air vent and coils.

Make sure that the defrost timer is not stuck in defrost mode also the compress may be stuck. you can purchase a compressor booster kit from your local appliance parts store for about $15.00.

SOURCE: Evap fan stops running/low cooling, Unplug Frig Evap fan runs

Is there anything obstructing the fan area, ice build up ? It is normal for your freezer to get warm if evap fan is not working, it is essential for it to work :) A defrost cycle should kick on a timer or as needed (adaptive) and there should not be excessive frost buildup that it blocks your evap fan. I would have suggested you unplug your refrigerator for about 10 minutes and see if that resets your control board - if not, then you will need service - either replacing motor assembly or a faulty control board.

I have an Amana heater/airconditioner (Prestige I think) that is not cooling. The outside compressor fan was not spinning, so i I changed the capacitor on the unit. It now spins, yet vent air not cold

If that fan stopped your compressor overheated, shut off on thermal overload. Carefully cool compressor with water hose and restart. If the big copper is cold ,small copper warm, compressor is running. Check capacitor on compressor

My vinotemp vt60 starts cooling then stops

I sounds to me like the compressor is overheating. There is an overload on the compressor itself. Follow the wires where they go into the compressor. There will be a black wire going from the power cord to the overload. These can be purchased at appliance parts stores. Make sure there is no dirt build up on condenser coils or a kink in the tubing.

I have a Samsung rs21!!! it wont cool in either compartment. when I plug it in the compressor fan does a quarter turn then stops. the compressor runs for about 30 seconds then cuts out? any ideas plea

most likely the start relay on the compressor that changes from start windings to run windings. the compressor will run for about 30 seconds on start windings then click out on internal thermal overload.
this can be confirmed by turning it on and letting it do the 30 second run then when it stops just wait and see if it cuts in and tries to run again (usually takes about 5 min) the second time it cuts in it wil most likely not run for as long (usually about 10 seconds). if this is what it does get a new compressor start/run relay.
as for the fan flick it with your finger and see if it spins freely.

Hello Rich,NO you have a dual capasitor that runs both fan & compressor motors.Shut it down and let it cool off.You need the uf rate numbers & the volt rating of the existing cap (printed on the side)to get EXACT replacement. The wires plug in to the top termanls C, HERM &FAN.Worth fixing good luck.

Will not cool fan runs though

It sounds as if the compressor has gone out. To see if it is out you need to pull the fridge out to access the lower part of the fridge. There will be a black oval tub looking device in back of a fan. Plug the unit in and see if the compressor kicks in you will hear a humming noise from this device. You can put your hand on it to see if it is vibrating but be careful if it has gone into thermal overload it will be very hot. You may want to unplug the fridge for approx 4 hours or so before attempting to check this since if it is in thermal overload it will not start so the time it is unplugged it will cool down and start. Once you plug it back in check to see if the compressor is humming by listening to it or feeling it. It may run fine from this point out or it may go back into thermal overload in which case the compressor has gone out.

Hope for the best good luck.

GE refridgerator won't cool

First of all check and see if the compressor is running and if not is it very hot to the touch. If the compressor is not running but hot then the compressor is either locked up or is cycling on its internal thermal overload. If this is the case then either the condenser fan motor is not running and/or the condenser coil is very dirty. If the condenser coil is dirty you need to blow it out with compressed air(watch out for all the blowing dust). If the compressor has been cycling alot on its internal thermal it will eventually lock up permanently and you will need a new compressor. I hope I was of some assistance to you!

GE side by side TFX22RLC

If the condenser fan is not running while the compressor is running could damage the compressors overload. Yes it's a serious problem if not repaired soon. (Unplug until repaired.) This can cause a weakened internal overload inside the compressor. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Condenser fan motor may be running a little slower therefore causing a warmer compressor. Also the refrigerator must be plugged into a dedicated outlet wired 12/3 with 20 amp breaker.
With the compressor to hot the thermal overload will open therefore the compressor will not run until it cools and overload resets.

Electrical unit attached to compressor keeps making a spark(clicking sound) Fridge & freezer slowly stopped cooling during the day and is now down to 0 cool.

Overload thermal protector is tripping out. When a mechanical refrigerator is unplugged it should remain unplugged for 5-10 minutes to allow the refrigerant pressure to equalize. If you unplug it and then plug it right back in the overload will open on and off until the pressure in the system balance to the point where the compressor will start.

This protector is a two way protector. It opens on Over current and or over temperature. If a condenser is plugged with dust , hair or what ever the fan which circulates the air for cooling the system will not move enough air to keep the compressor with-in operating temperature range. The thermal protector will open.

KitchenAid fridg compressor heating up

If the compressor is very hot, it sounds like it may be locked up. Is there an external fan next to it that is not running. this will cause the comp. to overheat, like a dirty coil, which it sounds like you checked out. There is a thermal overload on the compressor. Its underneath the little plastic cover that the wires go to. It protects the compressor from a meltdown. It also has a relay in there. If you have an amp meter you can check this by waiting for it to cool off and clamp it on one of the compressor wires.when it clicks on, If the amps soar over 20 very quickly, and then stops. Its a locked compressor and the thermal overload is cutting it out. If you don't have a volt/amp meter, then try replacing the relay as its pretty cheap. But I would bet on the comp. as long as the fan is running.
