SOURCE: where is the defrost timer on a GE model gss20iemb

Good day,
Doesn't have one. It functions thru a motherboard mounted on the bottom back rear of the machine.
Normally 5 thermistors are used (3 in the freezer 2 in the fresh food compartment) to operate the machine.
Defrosting cycles are controlled by the motherboard with the input as well from compressor running time and the number of door openings.

SOURCE: My refrigerator does not defrost.

You need to check the mother board. There are usually visible burn marks on it. In any case if your heater and thermo are good it can only mean you need a board.

1984 panasonic fridge defrost timer

That panasonic model number doesn't come up in my parts catalog. But defrost timers are pretty generic. Most refers in that era use the same timer.Locate the timer and remove it.Take it to any appliance parts store and they can surely match it up with a universal timer that they have in stock.Cost is less than 25.00.

GE Frig model TFX20JRBK ww with icing on freezer

I would suggest fixing it . You only have 2 parts in the defrost system . A timer , and the defrost heater which comes with the bimetal , pt . # WR51X10031 .Most probable , is the defrost heater . You will need to remove the rear inside freezer panel , and defrost the coils with a hair dryer . After defrosting , 2 screws hold each ( 2 ) heater on , ant the defrost thermostat , just clips onto the top of the coils .

GE Model # DSS25PFMD WW, lights and fan are working not cooling

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

Freezer side of refridgerator doesn't freeze foods properly and also makes only about 10 cubes a day. food side works fine, it's a Hotpoint model #HSS251FMB WW

If freezer is icing up, you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

GE GSS22WGPH WW won't defrost

I am sure you can do this yourself, Jeff. The test procedure is as follows. Bypass the defrost thermostat (round thingy strapped to evaporater ) place the frig into defrost by manually turning the timer with a screwdriver clockwise untill you hear a loud click. You should be in defrost mode now. If the heater element comes on then you have a bad defrost thermostat. If they do not come on then the element is bad. You can check element for continuity with an ohm meter. The defrost timer rarely goes out but they occasionally do. Wait to see if the timer comes back out of defrost on its own. Takes about five to ten minutes .If it does not, then you can visually inspect timer. There is a sight window on the back of timer that should be spinning if motor is good. Hope this helps

GE TFX20JR BK WW side by side won't cool or freeze

First point: The entire fridge is cooled by the freezer section. A fan blows air across to the food section.
2) Every 8 hours or so, a timer shuts off the compressor cycle, and starts up a heater to defrost the freezer coils. If the heater(s) are burnt out, or if the safety thermostat (to prevent overheating) is open, then you will have no defrost. The coils will frost up and eventually prevent airflow to the food section. Milk goes sour.
3) In rare circumstances, the timer itself can stall. This cause the same symptoms as above, but this is not as common as the other 2 causes of No Defrost.
Sequence: Check heater continuity. Check safety thermostat continuity while cold. Check defrost timer operation.
Hope this helps. I am a journeyman with 39 years exp. Happy New Year.
