Question about Igloo Cooler IGLOO Freezer. 3.6 cu. ft. Upright Freezer in white FRF434

Open Question

Igloo FRF434 chest freezer run light does not come on

Hi, I bought this freezer new and used it once for a few months. Then, I had to move and did not use it for about 7 months. Now, I'm trying to use it again. I plugged it in and it shows that it's in operation, but the manual says that the green "run" light is supposed to turn on indicating that the compressor is functioning. So far, it hasn't done that. I can't really tell that it's freezing, because it's winter and 30 degrees outside. I keep it in the garage, which is not as cold (t's about 50 degrees I think). The food was frozen to begin with when I transferred it to the freezer, and so far it's stayed frozen. But again, I don't know if this is because it's winter, and it's already cold. Sorry for the long explanation. My concern is that the green "run" light is not turning on. Thanks so much!

*Update* I went to check on the freezer to find out what might be the problem and noticed that the seal had a dent in it the size of a small marble. I am thinking this might be the reason why the green "run" light is not turning on. The dent on the seal is my fault, because the cord got caught between the seal the whole time I had stored the freezer when not in use. Now I am not sure if the light is not coming on because of the seal gap or what. Can the freezer still do it's job even with a dent/gap on the seal? and does the green light need to be on?

SOURCE: Igloo chest freezer 7.2 cubic ft seems running all the time?

It may be on "superfreeze", if there is a yellow light, or it may be set for too low a temperature (try setting the thermostat down to 1 or 2). Check the condenser is clean, and fan working if it has a fan, Check lid is closing properly and the ambient temperature isn't too high.. Lastly, if all else working correctly, suspect short of refrigerant.

Freezers have an electric motor within to pump the freezer gas around. Its possible the movement has caused a problem. Get ban appliance shop or tech to check it out.

It'll be fine. Leave the door ajar and clean it inside with bactericidal cleaner after you finish using it and before you start using it again.

After moving to a new home, the freezer keeps tripping the breaker every few days

My first instinct is to ask you, are you plugging this freezer into a GFI outlet, one which has a breaker switch as part of the outlet? If so, that is the culprit and not the freezer, as refrigerators and freezers will often trip this ground fault indicator because water can on occasion reach ground, which causes the breaker to trip on the outlet.

Test this by plugging the freezer into a non GFI outlet for longer than a few days. Nothing is broken and you dont need refrigerator repair service.

Is it factory new, never been used? Or are you saying you bought a used one and they replaced it with a "new" used one? I am familiar with True Manufacturing and if it is a new unit you have a one year parts and labor warranty. The dealer you bought it from is the responsible party to fix your problem.

Things you can do to cut down on frost.
1.make sure all seals fit flush to frame.
2.use a thermometer and set freezer to -18c(beef will keep upto 12months).
3.wrap all food as airtight as poss.
3.do not overfill, leave space for air flow through drawers/shelves.
4.defrost every 2/3 months in humid conditions using clorine bleach to clean interior, and dry thoroughly.(leave door open to dissipate clorine gas.)

if the unit still works and looks new i would say knock off about 100 dollars of the price you paid for it and this should be good enough for some who wants it or at least sell it for 200 to 300 dollars

Used freezer won't freeze food

If the compressor is running and it still doesn't cool, it is probably leaking freon. If this is a frostless model there are other minor things that can go wrong. This usually shows up on a freezer that has recently been moved or hasn't been used for a time. This is almost never worth fixing as even if you fix it you can't ever completely trust it again. The food inside is usually worth far more than the freezer and most homeowners insurance doesn't cover it anyway.
