Another one of life's mysteries, and we shall probably never know

OH WAIT! Silly me! I forgot you can go to ASUS SUPPORT, and download the USER MANUAL,

Click on the Download tab.
(Knowledge Base / Download / Memory/Device Support / etc)

To the right of the - Select OS - box, click on the blue Down Arrow
Click on WinXP. Doesn't matter what Operating System you choose, you are just going for the User Manual. (Motherboard manual)

Give it a few seconds to load.
Scroll down, click on the + sign to the left of - Manual (5)
Scroll down.
Version E5215 M4N68T-M user's manual - English
Click on the blue - Global

A small window will come up -

Make sure the small circle to the left of - Save File, has a Green dot in it.
IF not; left-click in the small circle to the left of - Save File.
Now click on OK below.

A small download window will come up. Allow the file to Fully download, then DOUBLE-click right on the file name.

In the next window go to the left, and click on - Extract all files
At the bottom of the next 3 small windows, click on -
Next, Next, and Finish.

In the last window DOUBLE-click on the file name.
E5215_M4N68T-M to the right of the red Adobe PDF icon.

The front of your computer is the Front Panel.

The area of contact pins on the motherboard, that the main wires go to, is the Front Panel header.
You need a Front Panel header pinout.

When I refer to a page in the manual, it will be for the Adobe Reader page number box, at the top.
Go to Page 1-7
1.5.3 Motherboard layout

Number 12 shows us the Front Panel header.
Motherboard mounted in computer case, the Front Panel header is the 3rd header from the Left; on the bottom of the motherboard.
(System panel connector (10-1 pin F_PANEL)

Go to Page 1-25
System panel connector (10-1 pin F_PANEL)

There are two rows of pins.
4 pins across the Top row; 5 pins across the Bottom row.
Not numbered, so I will;

Starting on the LEFT side, going across to the Right; Top row,
Pins 2, 4, 6, and 8. There is NO Pin 10

Starting on the Left side, going across to the Right; Bottom row,
Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.

A) Pins 2 and 4 are for the Power On LED. (Light Emitting Diode)
Pin 2 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
If the PWR LED is dim when the computer is on, switch the wires around.

B) Pins 6 and 8 are for the Power On switch.

C) There is NO Pin 10.

D) Pins 1 and 3 are for the HarDDrive activity LED.
Pin 1 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
If the HDD LED is dim when the Harddrive is active, switch the wires around.

E) Pins 5 and 7 are for a Reset switch, IF a Reset switch is used.

F) Pin 9 is N/C.
Not Connected.
Probably a 5 Volt (DC) point for the factory to test with.
(So it's Reserved for the factory)

Here is an example of an ATX power on switch, that is used in MANY desktop computers,

Remember; the Power On switch is a Momentary Contact Switch.
This means the contact period you make across those two pins, shouldn't be more than 2 seconds.

Next time you do not know the Front Panel header pinout, of a motherboard;
Use an LED light with two wires.

Touch two pins at a time, going along the FP header.

Computer turns on? You have the Power On switch pins. Now you can continue on.

LED light stays on? You have the Power On LED pins.
LED light blinks? You have the HarDDrive activity LED pins.
Computer restarts? You have the Reset switch pins.

Power On LED winks at you seductively?

Put that left-handed cigarette down, and go get sum fresh air.

Windshield wiper wont turned off

old post day, so other can learn.
stuck on you mean but NOT KEY OFF right?
the fastback has rear wiper , ill pretend not that...
front wiper stuck on, (most times that is a bad wiper motor the gear box has a bad, SUSTAIN contact switch.
but here, on this car, no computers, no magic logic modules
its just a classic wiper and switch.
the motor has 1,2,3,5,6 wire pins. (not sure why they skipped 4)
1 is ground skip that.
key on , bat goes hot ,12v,
if the switch on the lower left is bad (shorted)
this is the SUSTAIN switch.
pin 3 wiper off is 0v.
if pin 3 is 12vdc wiper off(again key on)
then the switch lower left is shorted inside the gear box.
seen vast like this on man cars.
the main switch not seen here can fail too, but but that will cuase 12v to be on pin 2 or 3 failed, to find if main switch is bad one can only do continuty tests on that switch, because the secret
jumper seen below, when failing there, makes it seem like the main switch is bad but is not,
one can pull the connector and ohm out 3 to 6 , if 0 ohms its a bad gear box, (er, motor assembly) the red upside U below is the main switch in OFF, it jump 3 to 5. like this. and no power to it from main switch.

My computer has one long beep 2 short beeps, I put in new RAM and still does the same.

One, if I may; clean the gold plated contact pins with a pencil eraser, use air to remove the eraser dust. THEN try again before buying new Ram Memory.

(You are Following Anti-Static Precautions, right?)

Unplug the computer from power. Press the Power On button in, and hold for a count of 10 seconds. Let go.
Do this procedure two more times.

Plug the computer back into power.

What this does is clear CMOS Error Codes, and resets BIOS Setup back to the factory default settings.
We are just trying to clear CMOS Error Codes.

WAIT 1 minute, turn the computer on.

Still no?
'Slap' BIOS around a little bit.
Hold the Power On button in for a count of 10 seconds, or until computer turns off.
WAIT 1 minute, turn the computer back on.

I had to do this 3 times, one time, in order to get BIOS to recognize the new Ram Memory.

A) Ram Memory HAS to be in Slot 1. (DIMM 1)
That is the ram memory slot the Processor reads first.

Don't care about the other Ram Memory modules at the minute.
Just want to make sure a module is in Slot 1.

B) Are you SURE you have the correct Ram Memory?
There is a TOTAL amount for the motherboard, and EACH ram memory slot has a Maximum amount also.

Install in Slot 1 first. Try computer. If it works, then install ram memory in other ram memory slots.

No didn't work?
Then install in Slot 2.

You may find one of the ram memory slots is bad.

Help to replace on/off swith on dell

Why do you think it needs replacing? What kind of Dell PC is it? Be advised that it's normal to have to hold it down for 4 seconds to turn it off. Jumping the pins on the motherboard should turn the computer on if the switch won't. If it will turn on by jumping the pins, then the switch may be bad, but it's not a very common part to fail. Replacing it should be pretty simple, if you have the replacement part.

More likely that the power supply is bad, or may be set to the wrong voltage (rear of the unit). (Desktop power supplies don't auto-switch for different voltages the way that laptop power supplies do.)

How do Iplug the power switch wires in the corect place on the mother board? for the emachine T2824

Did you try to open your CPU casing to find the socket in your motherboard witch is totally fix with the power switch wire. The power switch wire are two forms, there is a 20 pins and 24 pins. If your power switch socket is only a 20 pins, you need to put only the 20 pins.

The 24 pins is not totally combined in power switch wire. If your motherboard power socket contains only 20 pins, so remove the 4 pins in your power switch wires. "Good luck!!"

Hope it may helpful for you!
