I REPLACED THE TWO 2200UF CAPS ON THE POWER SUPPLY MAIN BOARD . BOTH THE BAD CAPS WERE BULGING AT THE TOP. I COULDN'T FIND DIRECT REPLACEMENTS SO I USE ONE 4700UF AT A HIGHER VOLTAGE RATING FROM RADIO SHACK AND FIT IT IN OVER THE BOARD. JUST MAKE SURE YOU INSULATE THE LONG LEADS.

You can increase the temperature rating or the voltage, but increasing the uf rating will cause major issues most often immediately, but if not immediately, shortly after. Changing the uf rating, changes the entire character profile of the cap. You should have ordered the correct caps from a specialized electronic components supplier, not settled for what radio shack has, which is primarily cell phones now a days.

I replaced these same two caps with the proper 2200 uF caps and the set works now. See this article for which caps i replaced:http://blog.coppelltvrepair.com/2010/10/...

I had no picture and no audio, but power button lit up blue when pushed and relay clicked. Set did not respond to remote, such as power on/off. These caps are in the low voltage part of the power supply that provide power (e.g. 5v) to the logic board. My 5v reading from the power supply was 3v-3.5v, apparently low enough to prevent the set from powering the picture, audio and remote control circuitry.

It describes fixing a W5001C with the problem of a blank screen but still having audio.

Also check out coppell tv repair http://blog.coppelltvrepair.com/2010/10/dell-w4201c-hd-powers-on-off-no-picture.html
They have a parts kit for a common power supply failure for several Dell HDTV including the W5001C Look for bulging capacitors on all circuit boards and replace with the same UF (microfarad). However it is better to replace them with a higher voltage and tempature rating if you can find ones that fit on the board and chassis. Use an ESR meter to find the bad caps that are not bulging at the top. You do not need to unsolder the caps to test them with the meter. Electrolytic Capacitors are the most common failure in all modern consumer electronics and they are cheap to replace. It is because they are organic and dry out over time. Faster in hot environments like sandwiched between 2 large heat-sinks in the power supply section of the circuit board of a large screen plasma tube as in this TV.

As long as the power light is blue, its probably the panel and the audio amp. because these units are old, i simply replace the panel, powerboard, this usually solves the problem along with the updated rev code and firmware update.

My 531S hangs at the dell splash screen with one short beep before loading windows vista

I would start the computer in safe mode. To do this, keep tapping on the F8 key as you start the computer. Do this as soon as you see anything on the screen. If you get the windows splash screen, you've waited too long. Once you get the white menu on a black screen, choose safe mode and let it start. The next time you do a restart, it should work. If it doesn't, then in safe mode do a system restore back to the time it worked.

Sounds like you may have multiple problems. Suggest trying to eliminate possible causes by removing components. Remove any PCI cards like modem, video card, sound card, etc... Remove the memory modules and disconnect cables to CD/DVD drives. Look at the USB ports to see if any are damaged. Remove the components one at a time and see if the LED's change.

Disable dell startup splash screen to see RAID console

most likely, RAID is disabled. Restart the computer, tap F2 as soon as the computer starts until it takes you to the BIOS screen. Look on the Drives section and verify if your SATA or SATA OPERATIONS are set to RAID ON. Save the changes.

Afterwards, restart the computer and see if it works. Note, when it displays the Dell Splash screen, you may try to hit CTRL + i or CTRL + N to enter the RAID BIOS.

If none works, you can also visit http://support.dell.com and go to the Drivers and Downloads page. Enter your Service Tag or select your system model. Then check for an available update that you can download and install for the BIOS and Chipset of your computer.

Dell Dimension 4300 desktop screen goes black after windows splash screen appears. Have reseated RAM.

After hitting the power button on your computer, throw it into "BOOT MODE" and select your hard drive. See if this helps your computer load. If so, you will have to go into your BIOS Setup and make your current hard drive your Primary Boot Device.

If this doesn't help, load your restore disc and check your drive for errors.

Your problem shouldn't be anything more than a few registry errors OR a boot problem.

If you are not getting any Video at all, No Dell SPlash screen, nothing, then I'd look at a video card as the 1st point of Failure.

If you Get a Dell Splash screen, but nothing afterward, then the hard drive is suspect
