Question about Zenith B25A10Z 25" TV

Horizontal lines across TV screen Panasonic CT-31SF13U

My picture is breaking down into horizontal lines. About midway in the screen there is kind of a horizon line. The lines are wider above it; tighter below it. This happened suddenly. The set was manufactured in September of 1996. Can I fix this or try some adjustment? If not, what might the repair costs be? Is it worth it or is my TV saying goodbye? Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Elodia

This is a vertical deflection problem. usually there is one or more bad capacitors in the vertical circuit or a failing vertical output IC.
If you post your model number i will be able to give a clearer response.

Usually this repair would be $50 - $60

The problem sounds like a vertical deflection issue form what you describe.
On average they are usually in the simple repair categories. On average they would run in the $50 range if you take it to a reputable repair shop.
There are several possibilities
Bad capacitor (s)
Bad vertical IC
resistor in the power supply to the vertical circuit changing value

LOT [Line Output Transformer] fault. Check the horizontal scan output transistor too. If it is damaged, this kind of fault can occur. Anyway, the fault is related to its horizontal scan output section circuit. Check it. To get more details, http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

Check its vertical output section circuit for any component damage or loose soldering terminals. Check the solder terminals of the vertical output IC. Resolder all the suspected solder terminals by applying al little more fresh solder, without making any solder bridge short in between adjacent solder terminals.
If this do not help you, replace the vertical output IC. Lose of Vertical Scan is the problem of your TV.

Our tv, a Panasonic # CT-36D11E/CT-36D11 only shows a horizontal thin line across the screen. The sound is fine - any ideas? Is it time to replace or could it be repaired cheaply?

Resolder the vertical IC and replace those capacitors near and next to your vertical IC. If the horizontal line still appears, you may have to replace the IC. Thanks for asking and be caredful!
