Defy dishwasher does not wash or spray the water but is filled with water and goes through it cycles, what can be wrong?

The motor that pumps the water out of the machine is the same motor that pumps thru the spray arms. The motor runs in one direction to pump the spray bar and in the opposite direction to drain the water out. look at the cycle timer. It switches the direction. If it proves good then the motor is bad.

My mother-in-law called and her dishwasher is making a loud noise when the motor runs. sounds like a bad bearing somewhere? the noise stops when it drains (motor not running?). does that sound like the...

There is only one motor -- it runs a water pump for recirculating the water when it's washing and runs a water pump when it's draining.

It sounds like the spray arm is making the noise -- this is the part thru which the motor / pump forces the water during the wash cycle -- the pumped water causes the arm to rotate -- a warn or loose spray arm or mount is likely the problem.

Or, it could be just some utensil stuck in the bottom of the dishwasher which the spray arm is rubbing.

More info, let me know.

My dishwasher sounds as if the motor is running but there is no water spraying.

Most likely cause is the spray arms are blocked. You need to ensure it is the wash pump motor that is running and not the drain motor. Do you see water sitting at the base of the dishwasher? Does the machine complete a wash cycle (even if the water does not appear to circulate)?

Karcher 320H i have the same pressure coming out as i put in from the tap, the motor is running ok

You have an air lock in the pump and or piping.
  • Open all drain cocks and remove the spray hose
  • Connect the inlet water hose and turn it on slow
  • allow water to run from all open ports for 2 minutes or so
  • leave the water running - close drains start motor
  • Shut down reconnect spray hose restart
  • You should now be smiling

If the lower and upper spray arms do not turn what could be the problem? I have a MDB4100AWB and I of course have hard water in our area and wondering what is causing the spray arms to turn.

could be the plastic shaft extension that screws onto the motor shaft to drive the pump. The threads on the plastic extension would sometimes get stripped out so that even though the motor is running, it isn't driving the pump mechanism. Assuming the dishwasher is filling with water and motor is running during the wash cycle. also check spray arm openings to make sure they aren't plugged up.

Unit does not spray water for deep cleaning. One can hear the motor running of the ''spray'' action, but no water comes out. I have followed the DVD instructions exactly. Please advise Thanks Anne

sounds like you have an air lock in line before motor. turn unit upside down and disconect hoses. reconnect and try again with plain water. good luck

Asko D1706.The washing arms have stopped turning.

Can you hear the motor running? If the motor is runningand machine is full of water, but not pumping water around, you have one of the following problems:
-a blockage in the filters or sump preventing enough water getting to motor impellor,
-blocked jets in spray arms themselves,
-or I have had cases where the impellor has broken off the motor, hence motor runs but doesn't pump any water around. Check for blockages first, wouldn't suggest you take motor out and disassemble unless qualified or confident to do so (it's not an easy job if you haven' done it before!!)

Water not spraying

sounds like a bad motor, you can get a complete replacement of the motor and sump assembly for about $150-175. one piece includes new motor and chopper assemblies, less then a hour to change.
