Question about Whirlpool LER4634J Electric Dryer

2 Answers

Our Whirlpool electric dryer Mod LER 7646JQ0 has ceased to function. When the door is opened the 110 v lamp cmes on, but that is the only part of the dryer that functions. I have checked the power to the unit and find that there is 240 v to the dryer, but it is not evident at the appropriate leads (red & black) at the timer.

Mr Rylee Smith had been assisting me until I had to end the session to keep another appointment previously scheduled, with the problem not yet solved. He very methodically caused me to go back and isolate each component that I had previously checked, and recheck them, which was very time consuming, and his response time was relatively slow, at times. His last recommendation (the door switch) proved that his method, while too time consuming for me, proved to be a valid way to deal with the problem and proved to be the correct solution. (From a trouble shooting point of view the switch appeared to be OK, as the internal light was on when the door was open, without isolating the switch I was unaware of the fact that the switch was always on, even with the door closed, which interrupted the curcuit logic)

Please thank Mr. Smith for his knowledge and patience. He was able to help me solve the problem.

My guess it's a thermal fuse or the belt is off. There is a belt switch to make sure it is turning the drum and there are several thermal fuses in there that will go out. Sounds like you already have a meter check them. If you can help it. Don't take the belt off if it's still on. I have did hundreds of them and if you have never put one on before it can be a challeng. Here is a link. Also go to sears com and enter your model number and it will show you the breakdown and parts. Good luck

No it will not, dryers with 110 volt plugs heat on gas,220 dryers heat with electric, putting a 110 vac plug on dryer for 220vac,the motor will run but it will not heat
your 2 options are

1) have a electrician come and run 220 vac circuit

2) purchase a gas dryer

LER 5620KQO won't start. Any ideas?

I would think that you either have a bad thermal fuse, Thermal cut off or bad door switch. Most likely a bad thermal cut off.

The Roper is manufactured by Whirlpool. Your REX4634JQO should be identical to the Whirlpool LER 4634 J. Go to Roper's website at to see about getting a manual. If you want to get at the problem without waiting for a manual, take a putty knife and slide it under the top of the dryer at the two retaining clips to pop it open and tilt the top back exposing the top of the drum. Then open the bottom panel and take the belt off the motor pulley. You should then be able to lift the drum out of the enclosure. Clean off the ball and socket at the back of the drum and apply fresh grease. Clean the lint off the idle rollers at the front of the enclosure and make sure they turn freely. Clean the surface where the belt rides and clean off the belt, then reassemble. If the belt is glazed, frayed, cracked, or shows any other wear or damage, do yourself a big favor and replace it now. I think the last one I bought was about $12 and will save you the trouble of doing all this again when the belt does finally fail.
