Says sd card error

Are you sure it's an SD card? Even though SDHC cards will also fit into the slot, they will not work in the A540. If the card is larger than 2GB then it will not work.

Card locked

Hi,
An SD memory card usually has a little white slider on the outside of it. I says in small letter, with a little arrow "LOCK" . Push the slider in the opposite direction of the arrow i.e. to unlock it.
If this is the case, then the camera should be able to communicate and write to the card.
There is also the possibility that the device in the camera which detects this slider is damaged. In that case the camera should be repaired. I think, though you will be OK moving the slider.

There is also the possibility that the card is corrupted. See the Link below

I hope this has helped you.

When I now try to use a 4gig memory card it always says the card error or card locked. I have tried card in both positions but it still says it is locked. I have tried with 3 different 4gig cards. What...

You may be restricted to using only SD cards, and many 4gb cards are actually SBHD. My sister had this problem with her camera and by putting in a new 2 gb SD card, her camera worked fine. You may need to shop online in order to find an SD card, but they're widely available online. It costs about the same for 2 2gb cards as one 4gb even though they aren't as convenient.

Camera reads memory card locked??? will not alow me to take pics.

Is it an SD card?, if it is there is a little (tiny) lock slider on the side of the card, sometimes they fall off, if it has, put a piece of selotape (thin) over slot on side of card (where it says LOCK)
Cheers.

SD card doesnt have a lock toggle, but says protected and wont let me take pictures from my fugi film camera...why?

All SD cards should have a toggle, unless it has fallen out, or its one of the "specials" usually found in Sat-Navs which were made to be read only (with maps on). You don't say which Fuji you have - some used to take xD cards, which don't have a slider, but are easily recognisable by their one curved side of the card. I'll assume you have an SD card for this reply.
----------------------------------------------
Here's a recap of what you are looking for:

On the SD card there is a small slider - which allows you to lock the card (to prevent accidental erasure).

If you put in on the table with contacts upwards, corner cut top left, then the slider is on the right hand edge, about 1/3 the way down. If it is slid to the top position (nearest the contacts) the card is unlocked. If it is slid down (away from the contacts) the card is locked.

If it is a damaged / "cheap" card, sometimes the slider falls out, in which case the card is locked. You can still read from it, but not write to it until fixed or replaced.

First check is to turn the camera off, remove the card, move the slider to locked, then back to unlocked. Replace in the camera and turn on.
---------------------------
As to your choices if it is broken (or a read only map SD card), then you might like to try the camera with another SD card, to see if the problem persists? (A reputable photo store will often lend you a card for the 20 seconds it takes to do this test)

Repair is very fidgety (even assuming you can find the slider). Most people tend to migrate their stuff to a new card.

Hope this is helpful.

How do i unlock my sd card

There is a slider on the left hand side of an SD card which sets the card to Locked (lower position) or Unlocked (higher position - i.e. towards the top of the SD card). The first step is to check the position of this slider.

Note that the position of the slider does not affect the SD card in any way - it trips a switch inside the camera (or other SD reader). The slider MUST be in the upper position or the camera will say Card Locked - so if the slider has fallen off (they are very fragile!) the camera will assume it is in the Locked position.

Memory is locked on the camera

ok so on sd cards there's a slider on the side of it. this has an arrow (usually pointing down) that says lock next to it. make sure the slider isn't on the side that the arrow points to.
hope this helps ;-)
