Click start right click on computer select properties then device manager scroll to sound and video game controllers if you see a yellow question/exclamation mark or a red X the driver will need to update drivers Click start right click on computer select properties then device manager scroll to sound and video if you right click on sound and video then on high definition audio device select update driver software Click start control panel hardware and sound manage audio devices right click on your speaker select configure speakers. Right click on the speaker icon in the bottom taskbar you will see an array of options select playback devices make sure it has a green tick and the correct speakers are selected be updated. If you computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it although once speakers are connected widows 7 should automatically update the drivers Click start control panel hardware and sound manage audio devices playback you might have to set a default go for via high definition audio then right click on speaker You might have to configure them then select properties you will see tabs general level in this tab make sure your settings are loud enough also enhancements and advanced from the drop down list in the advanced tab select dvd quality or another then apply Hope this helps

  • judzma
    judzma Jan 16, 2013

as I said there is high def sound device installed. I have sound card installed with the newest drivers, but the problem exists. sound card worked on XP but very unstable. this PC was bought Vista included, so I think that problem is about bad driver or too old sound card for win7

SOURCE: hp pavilion cd/dvd drive disappeared, not showing

What you want to do is, first, make sure that the cables are connected to the cd/dvd player. Then, when you are in the device manager, right click on your computer name all the way on the top above all the devices, and click on scan for hardware changes.. If nothing comes up, restart computer and try this step again.

My computer doesn't detect my speakers, I do have windows 8

Do you have the AC adapter plugged into a live outlet and have you turned on the speakers? Make sure that the speaker signal cable is plugged into the correct port on your computer (the lime green port on a desktop). Check that the correct audio driver is installed for your computer. (With Windows 8, use the Device Manager to check. From the Start Screen, type in Device Manager. Click on Settings and then select Device Manager. Alternatively, Windows key+C on the desktop. Select Settings and then Control Panel. You can find the Device Manager under System and Security or Hardware and Sound.) Scroll down to the Audio devices. Expand the section and look for a red triangle with an X or a yellow triangle with an exclamation point. Try updating the driver (check with the manufacturer of your computer for the latest driver). Even if you don't see the error triangle, try reinstalling the latest driver.

Next check if the speakers work on another computer. If they don't work, the audio cable may be damaged. Try a different set of computer speakers on your computer.
If other known good speakers do not work and the correct audio drivers have been installed, check the audio output devices. Go to the Control Panel > Hardware and Sound page (as described above). Choose Manage Audio Devices. Check if the HDMI port is set as the default audio device. Disable it for a bit (right click on the device) . Sometimes when a new video card is installed, the audio device defaults to this port. This messes up the drivers for the regular audio.) Reboot the computer and then try reinstalling the audio driver. Reboot again.
If it still fails, there is probably something wrong with the audio device hardware. If you are using an add-on sound card, try disabling it and using the motherboard audio device. (A number of add-on sound cards didn't work well with Win7 or Win8. The on-board audio drivers worked better.) If you are using the motherboard audio on a desktop, try an add-on sound card. (Check for Windows 8 compatibility (drivers) before selecting any card.)

I hope this helps.

No Audio Output Device Installed

If you have visited the Toshiba website and downloaded and installed the latest drivers from there, then I would suggest that the on board Audio controller is defective and should be replaced. Check your guarantee and see if it can be returned to dealer/maker for repair.

I dont have any sound, I got a message bottom right corner when I click on speaker icon "No Audio Output Device is installed" I think I need drivers for X-220 speakers, I can't find them...

You don't need a driver for the speakers, but a driver for the sound card installed inside your computer. If the computer came with that sound card then you can find the proper driver from the manyfacturer website -> Support section.

Sound drivers need to be reinstalled sometimes after iTunes updates or video game installs.

No audio output device installed

Where are you checking? In the Device Manager?
Go there and disable the sound device and then reboot and enable it again. (If you get there and see a device disabled, just enable it and check again to see if you have sound).
Try this and report back if you still have problems.
