Question about Canon PIXMA MX712 Wireless Inkjet Office-All-In-One Printer, 12.5 ipm Black/9.3 ipm Color Print Speed, 150 Sheets Capacity, 2 Way Paper Feeding
The printer is a 4-in-1 Canon printer model PIXMA MX712 wireless. When it's turned on the window reads " 5011 Printer error has occurred. Turn off power then back on again. If problem persists, see the manual". This screen message freezes the printer and prevents any other actions. I've tried turning it off, unplugging it overnight many times. When it's turned back on the message is still there. There's no paper jam and the ink cartidges are installed correctly. From the internet sites it looks like the error is in the programming. The manual has nothing on error code 5011.

You need to carefully clean the encoder strip. It's the clear strip behind the carriage that runs all the way from right to left. A damp Q-tip should remove any grease or fingerprints.

I had this problem with the ink carriage jammed at the left hand side of the printer. I operated the lever in a hole on the top left hand side and eased the carriage along to the middle and pushed it back onto it's runners. All OK now.
