Question about Brother DCP-7020 All-In-One Laser Printer

1 Answer

Dcp 7020 paper jams

The printer jams, usually on the second and later pages. There is a spring-loaded, curved piece of plastic in the back that seems to fit too lose. The shop said that I took it to said that Brother issued a change to this piece due to jamming problems. The part is about $10.00, but labor is about $100.00. Is it possible to replace this part myself (I'm comfortable working on stuff, and don't have anything to lose anyway). Thanks.

SOURCE: Brother DCP-7020 Drum problems

Open the front of the printer by pulling on both tabs at the finger grips on both sides of the front panel. The front panel will flip down. The drum and toner cartridge comes out as a single unit. It is black plastic within gray plastic and has a handle like grip in the middle. Grasp this grip and pull the unit up and out. It feels kinda funny the first time you do it and you may feel like it will break, but it won't. Pull it up and out in a kinda circular arc. Do not touch the drum. If you ever need to replace the toner cartridge, press on the blue tap and separate the drum from the toner cartridge. You will have to replace the drum after every five toner cartridge replacements so practice doing it now. Note the tabs and slots on the sides before separating the drum and cartridge. Align the cartridge into the drum carriage and slide it in until it clicks. To replace the cartridge assembly into the printer, angle the cartridge at about 45 degrees and rotate in while pushing. It should click into place. If the front door then closes properly, you should have it in properly. Practice a few times and you should be an expert. For paper jams, there are many places to check and they may not all give warnings. First pull out the paper tray and check for and remove misfeeds. Remove the drum cartridge assembly and described here and check for and remove any paper. Open the back cover and check for and remove any paper. Open the automatic feed and check there as well as lifting the cover where the scanning surface is. Look in the rollers for the automatic feed for paper pieces. The last place almost never gives you a warning. Reach into the slot where the paper exits after being printed and grasp the whole top cover. Lift upward and it will open about 4 inches. This is a good place where small pieces of paper or even whole sheets may get stuck. Clean out any dust while you are there.

SOURCE: error 50 afte paper jam

The following is an extract from the Brother Service Manual that covers your machine:
"Error Code 50 & 51: The purge cam switch does not come ON or OFF even after the purge cam has been driven by the specified number of pulses."
The manual lists seven different causes, best case being the need to clean part of the mechanism, the worst case being replace the whole main electronics board !
Unless you have very good skills for dismantling such a complicated machine*, your choices are take it to a Brother Service agent who will probably charge you more than a new machine, or bin it - sorry !
* If you want to have a go at dismantling it, the service manual can be bought on eBay for about £5. If you don't want to spend that much, I can supply you a .PDF file copy for £1 - just post back here and I'll sort it out.

SOURCE: Brother DCP-7020 Paper Jam, we

This is caused by dirty exit roller. As this machine is a pain to dismantle I suggest that you try and clean these rollers ( 3 or 4 rubber small ) as they rotate. Opening and closing the front door will keep rotating them for you. Use a damp wrm water lint free cloth. I use a compound named Print Clean but metho can be used also.

Hp laserjet pro 400 paper jam in cartridge area

One of my customers has roughly 100 of these pro 400 in service. Many of the constantly display "Jam in cartridge area" We have found the message is not related to any part of the cartridge area. The exit flag spring in the back of the fuser seems to be lightly wound. Carefully turn the end of the spring that rests on the plastic ( closest to you when looking at it) one full turn over the top of the pivot and re-secure back on the piece of plastic. For safe measure, bend the tip of the spring down the piece of plastic so it won't unwind. Secure the tip with a small amount of glue. We dis this to all of the machines in question and have not had a single problem since

Clean a KX-P7100 printer

The paper jam in theKX-P7100 is usually due to the paper tray.

If you pull the paper tray out you'll notice a black piece of plastic (located at the most front) with a cork like material in the middle. Try pushing down on this piece of plastic a few times. If it does not pop up immediately the grease that Panasonic used has become "sticky". The piece of plastic is removed by turning the tray upside down and pushing on the small plastic tabs that hold the black piece of plastic in. Be careful to not loose the spring that is located under the black piece of plastic or break the plastic tabs that hold it in place. Once you get the black piece of plastic out, clean it with que tips and clean the area it slides up and down in. Make sure to remove all the "sticky" grease. Once you get it clean, don't forget to stretch the spring to one more inch. the spring quality is awful at tensile strength. Then place the spring back in its place and push the black piece of plastic back in its place. You can add some light oil to the black plastic to make it slide better. After it is reassembled try pushing down on the black piece of plastic a few times. It should spring up almost immediately. This should take care of the jams that you are experiencing.

In addition, you may have to stretch the 2 big springs under the metal plate in the paper tray to one more inch. To access them, you'll have to unscrew the 3 philips screws under the tray (take a picture before :-)), take away the 2 blue pieces and take out the metal plate.

Now I'm able to print from the media tray without any problem :-).

Hope this helps!

The paper jamed comes on, there is no paper in the printer. i used a compressor to blow the dust out, i took the back off, the shaft across the inside back with 1 geer on the right and a couple of geers...

If this is only happening in one section of the printer, such as when feeding paper into the upper automatic document feeder (ADF), then look for an obstruction in that area. The ADF has page sensors in the roof of the feed cover that senses the page when loaded. This is a plastic fork-like sensor that is spring-loaded. Sometimes the spring pops of or one side of the plastic tabs that holds it gets broken. In such cases, it may think a page is not loaded when one is, or vice-versa.

If the jam error comes up only when you try to print from the lower tray, focus on that area:

1) Turn the printer OFF and unplug the power cord from the rear of the printer or from the wall and unplug the USB cable from the computer.

2) Wait 3 minutes to give it time to forget the error, then plug it back in and turn on the power. If the error is still there it is a physical obstruction or a jammed/jumped gear tooth, or something may be broken. Do the following:

1) Use a flashlight and magnifying glass to closely examine the shaft, gears and page sensor to see if anything looks out of place.

2) Turn the printer upside-down and shake while listening for anything that may be loose or broken, such as a spring or piece of lever, or foreign object like a paper clip, etc.

3) If nothing is heard or seen, remove the back door and reach inside the rear access area. Using your thumbs, rotate the rubber rollers on the shaft in whichever direction they will move, as far as they will go.

4) Replace the back door firmly, the try to print again.

If after going through all the above steps the jam error problem is still showing up, you most likely have a mechanical component that is broken, e.g. gear tooth, sensor, or spring missing. This would require service from an authorized hp service center, which you can find at hp.com Support online.

Paper jams in first rollers out of paper tray one sheet will feed but several will jam

Check for wear on the first set of rollers. If they seem fine and your print settings are correct (media type and size) then you may need to replace a small part in the paper tray. When I have seen this issue previously I needed to replace a seperation pad that lifts paper up(spring loaded to raise the paper the right amount as the paper level goes down) and has a rubber pad on top, when the rubber pad gets worn and it no longer 'holds' the bottom sheets that are not supposed to feed. You can get these from brother directly or from service centers/retailers. The part you need is the paper feeding kit, part no. LM6291001 and it looks like this!

MF4350d gives a paper jam error when it has no paper in it.

I hired a technician who came to house and showed me where the paper jam was hidden... found technician on craigslist for $50 flat rate, came out on Saturday. He solved the paper jam problem in 20 minutes. One place to check for paper jam you cannot see until to look behind a hinged plastic flap above the cartridge area. Remove cartridge.Above the cartridge area is a width-wide plastic piece, about 1 to 1 1/2 inch wide from top to bottom, hindged along the top edge, moves but is attached along the two lower corners of the piece by small springs (one at each corner) to the housing of the machine. You cannot easily lift the plastic flap up to look behind it for paper jam until you remove the springs. I used forceps to remove them. Tweezers may work. Don't lose them! Once you remove the springs you can easily lift up the plastic flap (it is hinged) and look behind it into the crevices for any paper. That is where we found a small piece of paper. We needed a skinny forceps to reach into the crevice to get the paper out.
