My westinghouse 46" led tv will not turn on, tested the ac power supply and its good

Tv worked fine, then came home and would not turn on, not even the red light at the bottom. tested the ac power supply with multimeter and it tested like it should. my tv is the TW-62401-UO46A. could this be a problem with the motherbaord?

The problem might be of its mother board itself. Contact any experienced service technician to make it confirm before change it. There are so many adjustments should be done after changing a new mother board. It is not a user reparable work.

i have someone looking at the motherboard. upon opening the back i realized that there is not much else to the tv except the screen and motherboard. would you happen to know any good sites that i could purchase a new one if the motherboard is the culprit?

and what kind of adjustments would need to be done upon changing the motherboard?

The adjustments are not mechanical. All of them are electrical, means by entering into its service mode option. Each and every brand and model TVs today have only this type of adjustments, and the work is a skilled one. You might get an idea about what I'm saying by visiting the site mentioned here. Service mode entry method and adjustments to many brands and models of TVs are described here in detail. If you want to know more, check this site.http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.co...

okay people with this tv in particular google it before someone says hay throw it away or change out this part or that this led tv was poorly designed there are two ribbon cables that short out unplug one side at a time testing to see if tv will turn on the power suply for this tv should read 19 dc volts once you take the back off the tv there you will notice two white ribbion cables unplug one side see if tv turns on if not plug the one you unplugged in and unplug the other side check if tv turns on if not unplug oth if tv still dont turn on then assume your motherboard is bad if your tve turns on with one cable plugged in then you have a ad ribbion cable

SOURCE: ESA Plasma PDP4294LV No video, sound

checked voltages meter set to AC referenced to chassis VA, VE, etc no voltages.
Do not try to measure voltages on the primary side of the power supply with a meter; you may damage the meter and cause new damage to the supply. There are switching frequencies somewhere between 50,000 - 100,000 Hz and possible voltage peaks of several hundred volts.

Checking AC is only useful before a diode bridge that converts incoming AC into raw DC that is then chopped at higher frequency into an approximate HF AC, coupled to the secondary, then tapped and connected to more diodes to produce DC, finally regulated and sent on its way.
Your plasma set uses some higher voltages that could have caused the cracking sound they heard but the DVD player didn't cause the problem directly; maybe just caused the HV for the display to surge for a moment.
You may have additional fuses on the secondary side of the supply. If test points are accessible there, check for DC voltages and be suspicious of any fuse or test point that measures nothing at all.
I can't tell you which voltages to expect since that varies from one design to another but you should find several lower voltages such as 5 VDC for logic circuits and perhaps a 12 V point. The plasma's HV could be produced from a separate board fed from the AC line or get its supply voltage from the main supply. There aren't many standards to rely on here.

The most likely semiconductor failure would be on the secondary side and diodes come in many different packages, many cylindrical, some in the TO-220 package with a metal flange and mounted on upright aluminum heatsinks. These will have only two leads and there will be some in the same package with three legs. The latter can also be checked statically but unless you know what kind of transistor or regulator (look about the same) you are measuring, you will not be able to ferret out a defective one with any luck.
While you have the set open, check for any dust bunnies that can act as sponges, collect moisture and create a discharge path for higher voltages.

If the set is still under warranty, the power supply board is going bad. If not you can replace it yourself. It's not that big of a job. You can find the parts you need at www.shopjimmy.com
