Question about Fanner (XWT-RC061) ATA Controller

1 Answer

XWT-RC061 SATA card used for DVD rewriter wants to boot computer.

When I installed the XWT-RC061, the computer will boot until it starts the card, then it will display a boot error. When I disconnect the drive, the computer boots normally. When I plug the drive in after booting, the drive works properly. I need to know how to get the Compaq Presario to not try to boot from the sata drives. I have already modified the bios settings to boot from harddrive first, but it does not effect the issue.

There are four jumpers on the XWT-RC061 board. What is their function? There was no manual or information bundled with the card or on their web site. www.masscool.com

I have left a message with tech support for MassCool.com, so I'm waiting for a call.

From the manual
Note: there are 2 sata drive ports and 1 esata port named P1 to P3. (P1 and P2 are internal) Chaning the jumper setting allows you to select between external and internal ports to use.
Both underside --> P1 and P@ are working
Both topside --> P2 and P3 are working

hope that helps...

Internal PXE option ROM is used for booting from the NIC to a PXE server.

Generaly, many factors cause Blue screen and automatic restart: faulty Hardware, incompatible driver, software conflict, virus, codec issue. It is best for you to take down the dump code, and forward to mircosoft to see what they can do. What you might want to do is on your cd-dvd drive, since it uses IDE ribbons, try to see if the jumper pin is at master, slave, single on the back of your dvd rom. You should have it to single. Do you have a onboard IDE port??? If so, you can use that instead or is it connect to the harddrive, you can also set it as slave if hard drive is master. Secondly I think the Via controller you have is only for hard drive and not for optical roms, thats why it's causing a memory error crash dump.

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they are probably old and faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

Go through the prompts, then have your computers compatability wizard check first. Then look for the drivers properties. Then see if,after it installs the computer still doesn't read the disc then write or call microsoft.Or ask them online about this.

Booting Problem

Hi there.

You will need to open your BIOS settings, and change your boot sequence/priority so that it includes PCI cards. Save and exit, and see if it then boots.

If you need anymore help, or need me to clarify anything, I'll be happy to help.

Conflict between Promise Ultra133 and SATA RAID controller

Check that your RAID controller and onboard SATA controller aren't in a compatibility mode. You can put them in this mode while you have no SATA driver installed in Windows.

This tricks Windows into seeing the SATA drives as regular IDE drives. Your BIOS then has a spasm when it see's another IDE controller there, and just uses the card instead.

Make sure the SATA drivers are installed first, otherwise anything SATA will stop showing up. (and your Windows just won't boot if it's on a SATA disk and you take compatibility mode off) =-]

My new HDD isnt showing up in my computor

What type of HDD is your new one? SATA, IDE?

Do you have any USB disk devices plugged in to your system? USB hard drive or flash stick or other SD cards? Remove them and try rebooting again. These can sometimes take precedence over your HDD and your system will not boot.

Installing a 2 port ATA-133 IDE adapter card to a desktop w/a hard drive & DVD

I don't think you can boot off of the ATA-133 so you will have to boot off of the IDE on the mobo and have the DVD drive jumpered cable select on the 2nd IDE. Boot that way to make sure the system boots. Shut down. Then instll the ATA-133 adapter with NO DRIVES on it and boot. The system should ask you for drivers for the new hardware. Intall the drivers. Shut down. Attach the new drives to the ATA-133. Reboot. You still might have to go into admin in windows and assign drive letters to the new drives. Anyway, if you are trying to boot off of a drive on the ATA-133 adapter, I don't think you can do it. I have mostly used Asus boards with Award Bios and there was no way to point the boot process to an add-on ATA Controller.
